Details:

Low score for those who need in home health aides for activities of daily living. Aides are not reliable. they do not show up. Substitutes do not introduce themselves to the clients but just knock or call asking for directions. Regularly scheduled aides walk in while talking on their cell phones and ask to watch their tv programs, sleep, run personal errands and can be gone all day, coming back to punch out via the clients telephone. The company requires them to use the clients home phone but seem not to have a way to punch out if both are at a client appointment and not at home (my friend has to get back so his aide can punch out which is hard to do sometimes). There is no care plan or duties posted for all to see. the social worker calls the clients 2 hrs before coming, just to say she was there. the nurse at least calls the day before and asks to set up a good time to visit and is willing to come unannounced if requested to review the work of the aides. the social worker does not listen to the clients but steers them to keeping more hours than they may need with the reason being "just incase you need it later". My friend that uses this agency doesn't have much for them to do after the morning care is done and occasional doctors visits are done. they just sit with him all day. the agency says they cannot leave when tasks are done because then they do not get their hours in. the office does not know who is working where and doesn't respond to calls made by the client. my friend feels he is supposed to keep trying with this agency after 13 years. I am encouraging him to document his complaints and ask others about agencies that they are satisfied with. I hear this was a good agency but something happened in the office. why cant they keep/get good workers? 10 strangers into his home within 4 months. THIS AGENCY NEEDS TO DO BETTER!!! STARTS WITHIN THEIR OFFICE AND WITH THE SOCIALWORKER!! Aides should be compensated by the work done and not by the hours a person is present. Laws need to be addressed. More money paid to aides when escorting to Drs appts and less money for calling to order carryout meals.
