I went to MHW upon the advice of my husband & his family who are natives to the area (50+ yrs). I fell prior to my ER visit. I have MS & have been severely anemic for 3 mos. I had abscesses in the left side of my mouth that became infected after my fall that landed me in the ER in the 1st place. I also have had two bilateral jaw surgeries & am about to have a 3rd (aka jaw reconstructive surgery). I had sinus surgery 4 mos. prior & am prone to severe sinus infections (also had mono & strep/pnemonia abscesses that led to a tonsillectomy within the last 4 yrs). After only being treated for my "tooth infections" that turned out later to be serious abscesses per my oral surgeon (I was only diagnosed by the MHW ER d.o. via diagnosed ONLY with a tongue depressor where he stated I had multiple cavities on the side of my jaw that I fell; had a hard time opening my mouth due to my jaw limitations although he seemed oblivious to that fact, or ignorant to TMDD in general). Right after I was discharged, I fell again in MHW's parking lot because of extreme dizziness. Just before the discharge I tried to inform the d.o. (he became unavailable for me to tell him that one simple fact) because I was very concerned about how dizzy I was. Anyway, I almost got hit by a car but thankfully was rescued by security who wheeled me back to the MHW ER in hopes to get to the bottom of my extreme dizziness(that guard showed more professionalism than anyone at MHW) . (Btw, I'm NOT on ANY medication & haven't been for several days except my beta blocker that I've taken for 15 yrs & my seizure medication that I've taken for 36 yrs). I now went to the ER side that had the longer wait (triage told me if I pursued that route the 1st time I would have been there until the next day, which would have been 24 hrs since I got there early in the a.m. on a Friday). I was now in severe pain in multiple places & concerned about the severe dizziness even more so the "ER wait" seemed irrelevant at that point. Bottom line, not only did they have one of the worst "bed side manner" that I've witnessed (my new er dr. was hitting on all the young women; i'm 40 yrs old, catholic married to a jewish man but have a daughter from a previous marriage who has a very spanish last name; I say that because the dr. seemed to prefer spanish women & I'm german/polish). In short, MHW DID absolutely NO diagnostic tests & refused to assist me reissuing any new paperwork that "flew away in the wind" when I fell but released me in the dizziest state where I almost got hurt again from a serious auto accident later that night. The LPN did give me a 25mg pill of Meclizine that absolutely did not help. I seemed to have to beg just to know what I was given (my mother is a 69 yr old biochemist at another hospital, unfortunately, too far away for me to visit her at her place of work, otherwise, I gladly would have; anyway, she raised me to always ask what I'm being given while I'm at any ER). I understand dizziness is hard to diagnose but ANY diagnostic test would have been appreciated. They prescribed me percocet once (same visit from 4+ mos ago) because I had chest wall pain from being REVIVED & acted as if I still kept a supply. (Because of my age perhaps?) I would have been more than happy to give them ANY type of specimen (urine, blood, etc.) for them to not accuse me on somehow being a pain addict because I was once prescribed a 3-day supply by them those 4 mos. earlier. I don't know what their problem was but all I had earlier that day was my heart & seizure medicine like any other day. Had they performed one damn test they could've easily see that pain meds were NOT my problem. They also showed me a CBC result (from that same 4+ mo. old visit) that showed I was only borderline anemic then. Why couldn't they just update it since it's been chronic since & relates to dizziness? I have insurance but it seemed more that my caregivers cared more about each other than me!!!!
