Care is inconsistent. There are some friendly, helpful, competent staff and then those collecting a paycheck for socializing. Therapy is also very dependent on the individual therapist assigned. Too many times patients are put on machines with no supervision/instruction for 20 minutes while therapists socialize and/or do paperwork. Social service managers do not work with patients and families to coordinate care, rather they dictate, communicate poorly and only at their convenience.

My mother was a resident at Life Care recovering from a series of surgeries. My mother had been in another facility previously for the same thing and now resides in a LTC facility permenantly for hospice services, so I have some other basis for comparison. The facility is beautiful and well maintained and the food is good. There are some good staff but generally the quality of care is poor. The nursing staff are very slow to respond to call lights and several of them are overtly rude and disrespectful to the patients. Several others are rude but in a more subtle way (no eye contact, acting as if requests inconvenience them unreasonable, etc.). On my mother's first night there, she needed help getting up to go to the bathroom. When someone finally responded, she yelled at my mom and told her to go to the bathroom *in her bed* because they didn't have time to "deal with" her. I consider this verbally abusive and extremely disrespectful to a scared, sick elderly lady who just needed help getting up. I had more than one meeting with the adminstration and some improvement occurred but not much. The worst behavior stopped because I threatened to report them to the state for elder abuse. Just today, I found a news story that this same nursing home had to pay a $2.5 million settlement in 2005 for severe neglect of their patients (a Google search will show you the articles). I would say not much has changed.
