After sitting in the lobby for over 3-1/2 hrs. we were finally admitted. When someone is facing something like this the last thing they need is 3 hrs. to think about it watching addicts come and go in the lobby. If you are having marital problems and want to save your marriage this is NOT the place for you to send your loved one. I was told I was a "trigger" for my loved one's drinking and would hamper recovery if I didn't move out. In other words, unless you spend $16,000.00 more dollars for an extended stay or move out your loved one may not be able to stay sober, and oh, by the way, you are a main cause for the drinking. I found the professionalism of the counselors to be lacking in all areas. They did not, in our case, make the alcoholic take responsibility for drinking. I also did not get a return phone call from the counselor when I told her I would have to call back because her initial was during a business lunch I had. She acknowledged the call at our conference and was blaze about not returning it. The family 3 day program, great, the facility, great, the food, good, the 3 day family instructors, great, the in house counselors and their advice, terrible. It's like they are giving marriage advice after talking with only one spouse. I would not send my spouse there without a "serious' conversation with the Executive director about what to expect and to have some guidelines laid down. Even though insurance pays, it's YOUR insurance and they are being well, well paid for two weeks. They will use any tactic to pull another $16,000.00 out of you for extended care, even at the risk of destroying your finances as well as your home life.

This place is only after money. I was there a week before being denied by my insurance company after Bradford told me that I had been approved before entering. They stated that I was not having withdrawal symptoms even though I had a seizure the third day there. They tried to pressure me into paying out of pocket stating that they would report me as AMA (against medical advice) if I didn't pay out of pocket. I have had been sober for 8 mos. through AA and have heard similar stories in group meetings. Stay away from this place.

This program is one that I would recommend to anyone who is struggling with an addiction. At first, I felt ashamed and embarrassed for having to attend. After the first day, I knew that I could be honest and an active participant. I have learned so much about my addiction and how it came to be. The staff was great. I gained a wealth of knowledge from the staff and other members of the group. I would highly recommend this facilities to others needing assistance.

I never thought I would end up at a rehab, in my 50s with 2 grown kids. But I couldn't stop drinking on my own. I went to Bradford, I was only able to stay a couple of weeks (due to my insurance), and I've been sober ever since. I still attend their Aftercare groups weekly and actually enjoy going to them. It was a very helpful experience for me.

This was the second stop of my recovery process, the first being the ER. I ended up staying for about 3 weeks. I was recommended to stay longer, but I couldn't afford it. The staff were compassionate and helpful. It was what I needed at the time, otherwise I would have probably went back to my old ways pretty quickly. And I've been sober ever since. Good place to start your recovery journey.

I LOVE Bradford. I am a current employee there and I figured I would point out some things that are extremely inaccurate about our quality of care. We do not do 3 day evaluations. Look on our website or any brochures. If you were told that by someone other than a Bradford employee I apologize. Part of the evaluation is contacting the family because yes the family is VERY much involved in your treatment. It effects them too. Hence why we provide not only an individual therapist but a FAMILY therapist as well. We are NOT allowed to contact the family unless a release is signed. So if you put names on a release with phone numbers you actually are giving us every right to contact them and ask their opinion on everything. We are a registered hospital. Every patient admitted is REQUIRED to stay in the detoxification unit for a minimum of 24 hours. It is procedure and it is actually for your protection. As for the detox drugs that are given- Bradford has been in existence for over 30 years treating drug and alcohol abuse. Not only do we know exactly what we are doing but we are very good at it. So clearly if anything like some of the stuff said on here was actually true then we would have been closed down a long time ago because it is unethical and illegal. Look- I get it. Some of you had a bad experience because maybe you shouldn't have been sent for an evaluation in the first place. But that is not our fault. You got yourself in the position to be recommended for an evaluation. You are forgetting that people who are looking at this website are looking for help. And we might be the only place they can afford because we accept insurance unlike many facilities (so maybe we aren't all about the money) not to mention are one of the only Tricare providers in this country. We treat many soldiers who have come back from war and are suffering with drug and alcohol abuse along with PTSD. If you are reading this website and reviews and you do need help and you know your life is falling apart do NOT get discouraged. The only way we can prove to you that these things are not true is to show you first hand. So there is hope ahead. Call us for a FREE consultation. Yes, it is absolutely free and confidential. That should speak for itself.

I was told by the Bar Association that I needed to go for a 3 day professional evaluation due to a report they dug up on me from one of my doctor's from college that referenced binge drinking and recreational drug use. Although I showed up at Bradford with 0 alcohol in my system and my urine drug test upon admittance was negative, they still admitted me to the detox floor, took me off my prescribed antidepressants, and put me on phenobarbital (a schedule 4 narcotic) and depakote (which is a mood stabilizer - they said was to control seizures from detox even though I had no drugs or alcohol in my system to detox from and have never had any sort of seizure disorder). This is was all after I explained repeatedly that I was only there for an evaluation, and I was put on these drugs before ever seeing a doctor. While still on these drugs, I was subjected to multiple psychological tests. I begged to be taken off the depakote I was suffering from severe upper stomach cramps, loss of appetite, flat affect, and diarrhea, all of which are signs of early liver or pancreatic issues, but the staff refused to take me off the drug or see a doctor. I lost 7 lbs in the week I was there because I was so sick and unable to eat. My evaluation was only supposed to last 3 days, and I was there for 8 days. The staff was evasive in answering questions, and quite often rude if you questioned any decisions or asked for additional information. This was the most disorganized and inefficient operation I have ever witnessed, and they intentionally keep you in the dark and make it difficult to adjust so they can "assess" how you respond in stressful situations. I was woken up at 11:30 at night while under the haze of the phenobarbital to answer questions regarding my alcohol use, and I can't remember the first 2 days because they had me so drugged up even though I was totally clean when I arrived and have not done drugs since college. During my 8 days, I met with the psychiatrist only once for approximately 15 minutes. In the group "therapy" sessions, the staff utilizes a bullying method to draw responses out of patients and encourage the other patients in the group session to call the person out and personal attacks. This place is also all about money at the end of the day. It's a complete racketeering opereation, and they will suck every dime you have and guilt trip your family into spending more money. I provided 3 phone numbers to the staff for what I was told was so they staff could confirm my stay at Bradford and update my family on my treatment if they called to check on me, but instead, the staff used these numbers to call my family members and pump them for information about me without my knowledge or permission for them to contact my family. The staff also obviously plays favorites. I HATED this place and was so happy when they FINALLY got off their asses and processed my paperwork and realized that I had no diagnosis of alcohol or substance abuse and was totally clean. Needless to say, I didn't receive any apologies for the mistreatment and misclassification of the reason I was there upon my release.

Spent over an hour with a local substance abuse professional who recommended I attend a few outpatient sessions. She referred me to a local Bradford facility because a trusted colleague had just taken a position there. I was there 10 minutes before somebody determined that my issues required inpatient care and offered to book me a flight to Birmingham that day. I drove the next day. I was there for three days and had visited my "counselor" for mere minutes, while whacked out on detox meds before they determined that I required at least 90 days of extended inpatient care. Needless to say, my insurance would have none of that extended visit so they milked them for the 20 days they'd cover. Weeks later I'm back in my SAP's office and she says "What the hell were you doing in Alabama!?" My reply: "You referred me." She could only think that I'd revealed to them some deep, dark issue that I'd not mentioned to her. Wrong! BRADFORD IS ABOUT MONEY! My handful of outpatient visits morphed into a recommendation of at least three months of inpatient at the hands of Bradford. Threats of what "may" happen should you fail to adhere to their recommendations were common. After coming down off the detox meds one of my roles became talking the new folks down off the ledge after they, too, learned of Bradford's "recommendation" for them. The list of phone numbers to family for support and treatment purposes became the go-to list for out-of-pocket cash. When your 80 year old mother who lives on a fixed income tells them "I'll do whatever it takes to get him better." they warm up the van for a tour of the extended care facility. Close to $17,000.00 for three weeks in a crowded and dirty "cottage," sleeping on rubber sheets to awaken each day at 5:30am to start scrubbing floors was just what this alcoholic needed (not). The two groups I truly pity: The "patients" who actually get sucked in and take out second mortgages to meet Bradford's "recommendations." and the truly good folks who work there and genuinely care (many of whom are in recovery) while being overshadowed by the marketing and sales group who undermine their every move.

Spent all of the 20 days Bradford could squeeze out of my insurance provider. Let's get thisout of the way up front: BRADFORD'S PURPOSE IS PROFIT. The ever-rotating source of this income just happens to be what they call "patients." Their recommendation that your stay be no shorter than 90 days seems to typically come within three days of admission, while you're still whacked out on the detox meds. You will be often reminded of the "potential consequences" of not meeting their "recommendations." After I finally came down from the meds one of my roles became talking the newcomers off the ledge after they learn of their "recommendation." The patients are encouraged to provide phone numbers to consult with and keep family in the loop during your visit. For me this became the "strong-arm" and "guilt trip" list to solicit more money from loved ones. When your 80 year old mom who lives on a fixed income tells them "I'll do whatever it takes to get him better." the tour of the extended care facility is booked within minutes. My story: A local substance abuse professional referred me to some sessions of outpatient therapy. She chose a local Bradford branch because a trusted collrague had taken a job there. They spent 10 minutes with me, decided I was beyond outpatient care and sent me to Warrior (the offered to make an airline reservation for that day). Three weeks later I was back in my SAP's office and she said "What the hell were you doing in Alambama!?" My answer: "Following your recommendation." Her handful of outpatient visits morphed into a recommendation for three months of Bradford incarceration! The bummer is that there are some truly wonderful people in the employ of Bradford. Many are in recovery themselves. Their humiliation at the marketing is sadly visible.

First of all my insurance sucks. I was told I would be in a 28 day program, but my insurance only paid for 15 days. Yes, detox is horrible. They put you on drugs not really needed by all patients for withdrawal. They expect you to get up at 5:30 a.m. and be at all the activities while you are drugged out of your mind. You spend the first 5 to 6 days getting out of the fog. You only have a few days to focus on yourself and your recovery. The cottages are a joke. Thrown into a group of 20 + women is hard enough, but in recovery, almost impossible. They say it's because you need to know how to handle different people sober. Dirty cottages, dirty, nasty cottages. Had to steal sugar and creamer from the cafeteria to make coffee. Really? I'm paying for this, you know. No physical activity! Had to beg the recreation counselors to let us go outside and do something!! Only saw my psych one time. Once! The only good thing I have to say is that the counselors are awesome. Connie and Culle in my cottage were the most influential people I have known. Their stories spoke more to me than any lecture!! About the money thing. It does seem like the people with the most money and best insurance get the special treatment! Sad when some people, like me, really wanted to stay and get better. I'm sure there has to be a better place.

My daughter was admitted to this hole because I was naive and felt pressure during a challenging time . This facility is about one thing only and that is money. We paid upfront for 28 days And were told if she left early we would be refunded what a. Joke . She stayed 14 days but no refund . The staff has more excuses than you could come with if you called them every day and I have to no evail .please look somewhere else for treatment this is just about MONEY.

Confrontational staff. Poor level of professionalism. Most patients who are professionals are sent to half way houses after they complete 3 months at Bradford. Avoid this place if you want to get back to work short of a year.

Bradford is about MONEY PERIOD. THE ONLY ONES TREATED WORSE THAN THE PATIENTS ARE THE DIRECT CARE STAFF. As a former employee, staff are ENCOURAGED TO GET PATIENT'S TO ENTER LONGER TERM CARE PRIOR TO BEING PROPERLY ASSESSED. MARKETERS proul like vultures using fear exploiting patients and their family members. Facilities are subpar with only the part viewable by family members in decent shape. The rest would not pass a surprise review. Management operates on the good old boy system with special perks. Patient's are routinely disrespected and any attempt by the patient to correct it they are considered a PROBLEM PATIENT and promptly discharged. Overall management is elite, patients provide the funds to provide for that status and the direct care staff are the means to collect it. I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND THE PLACE TO ANYONE. Not saying that all the staff are bad, there may be a few who are committed to what they are doing, however they are facing a lost cause being up against a system that doesn't want it, doesn't support it and certainly doesn't reward it. Staff haven't been given any kind of increase in salaries for several years nor any other benefits. While the owners and certain management continue to get wealthy, the faciliities and staff have been disregarded.

I came through this facility almost 6 years ago. It ended up being the best decision I ever made. I came through and met some great people that really impacted my life for a positive. I learned everyone else wasn't the problem. I was mad at the world and yet I was the common denominator. I didn't know how to eat, sleep, talk, walk and breathe without drinking and using and I was able to find a way to live successful. The key was not just coming here, stay a few days and then head back out to the same stuff but to follow the suggestions that were given to me. Because of Bradford I got a fresh new start that has allowed me to stay clean and sober, and I even got married which was crazy in itself. I was able to come back after 90 day and tell my story in my old cottage and I can't tell you how much that meant to me to be able to help people like they helped me. I started to learn about who I was and what I needed to change while I was here but the real work started the day I left. When I was here the food was par but when visiting the other day, the food looked amazing since they added a new staff. Overall, I would recommend this place to anyone. I am proof that second chances are worth it and you can make something of yourself. I am happy to say I still go to 3 12 step meetings a week and work with my sponsor and help guys and that is what has helped the most. If you are thinking about sending someone here, please do. I would guess 30-40% of the staff are alumni and are back for a reason. That says a lot to someone like me.

I actually went to this hell hole twice. The first time, their so called "detox" they give you all these other mind mixing meds. and then they keep you down in detox for maybe a day or two then whether you are ready or not, they throw you into these cottages with 20 or so other residents. I was still in need of detoxing but they didn't care. They put me in this "cottage" which in itself is crap. They run you out of detox, so that they can keep that revolving door open and keep that money coming in. This place is all about MONEY, MONEY, MONEY. The second time I was there, my family was told I was approved by my insurance for the long term program of anywhere from 45 to 90 days, which I did need. Upon my 7th day of being there, they called my into the insurance office and told me that my insurance would not pay past the next day, but that they would be happy for me to stay for an extra $200.00 per day. I told them if I could poop money, I would be addicted to ex-lax, not pain pills. So when I couldn't pay the enormous amount they wanted, they put me on a greyhound bus in Birmingham, AL at 3:00 in the morning and shipped me to Montgomery, AL, for a four hour layover until my next departure home. Not once did they contact my family of this. This place is horrible. They treat you like crap, only want money and give you absolutely no coping skills and pretty much everyone who walks out the door goes right back to using. I was one of those also. The only reason I went twice was because I wasn't in the right frame of mind to make a decision and my family didn't know how the place really was until the second time. Thank God and my family and private doctor, I finally got the right treatment, coping skills, etc. that I needed and have now been clean almost three years. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE.

my family member was kicked out the day after my family paid total of 14250, she did not want to leave, she knew thats where she needed to be and she left crying. she was kicked out because of acting out when going thru withdrawals. I'm not sure why a treatment center for drugs ad alcohol does not understand and know how to handle this type of withdrawal reaction. This is what they are paid for. Why would you kick someone out that wants to be there?

Almost NO individualized care (counseling). I should have stayed home and detoxed and just gone to a professional counselor! Literally! They put guilt trips on family members whom they see have money and get ALL the extra they can out of them . They got my mom for a lot until I got her to really see what was happening, then she was furious! Facitities are way overrated unless of course you are "on the hill" that is: long term care as a doctor or lawyer. Go somewhere else!

This place is a one size fits all cattle farm. The conselors turn a blind eye to infractions all around them, then single people out they do not like and kick them out. No individual attention is given, you have to learn what to do from the other patients. Use of medically mind altering drugs make it easy for them to control you. But you can't function in real life with what they pump into your system. Be prepared to detox after coming out. Go see a local Dr and get individual treatment.

The place is like a cattle drive, I know you cant do much in two to three weeks but the place the buildings and rooms are not like what they show on thier website IE: the long term buildings are not where th short term folks stay and they are not bright or happy buildings. Also, I only had TWO one on one meetings with my so called counseler the whole time I was there. The physical exercise counselor specifically targeted me on one occasion and totally blasted any "help" he could have done. Dont believe the website, it is not like the really pretty places you see on Intervention. They are a cattle call, the only thing they dont do is "brand" you!

I also attended the 3 day family program and was very pleased with the information that they covered. I highly recommend that families attend the 3 day program. The overall facility was clean.

When dealing with the addict in our family for 90 days, too much freedom was given and consequences for bad choices while at Bradford were not levied by the staff or communicated to us as family. While these are adult patients, their actions are not - including sneaking around to fraternize with the other sex on campus, inappropriate cell phone use between patients after allowed hours and fraternizing with the opposite sex while off campus on weekends and even taking time off together. Bradford was not responsible for these actions, but seems like there needs to be better guidelines and enforcement to prevent or at least communicate these to unsuspecting family members. The after effects are just as damaging as the substance usage that got the patient there in the first place.
