My son just finished at the meadows. He was treated for bipolar and depression. What a miracle they performed. I must admit he was willing though. He is a different person. He has come home with new skills and a new outlook on life. I HIGHLY recommend The Meadow for anyone who is looking for treatment.

Predatory, fraudulent, cultlike, unprofessional, uniformed MDs, evasive, deceptive. Program is sophomoric, ludicrous; so absurd is this money-maker, it works if you are gullible, easily led, unsophisticated, uniformed, unquestioning, overtrusting, too young and inexperienced or too desparate to even begin to suspect transparent fraud, malpractice as evidenced by lying MDs, evasive staff, and sophomoric activities: eg, lugging a large piece of cactus that resembles a canoe paddlefor a a week-- 1 male, 1 female-- because it instills one with power, LOL. I saw this (one joke among many on patients) and could not believe how many patients fell for this, among worse, and paid more than $40,000 to be made to look and behave like fools. Are the patients so naive they deserve what they do ( and don't) get, is The Meadows a joke that few get, or both? If you think for yourself, ask questions and expect honest answers in seeking the truth, etc. keep your distance & save your money.

Money grabbing Racket - Avoid: I went to the Meadows for a 5 week inpatient program. I left early since the program is poorly managed and an administrative nightmare. As other reviewers on this site have highlighted, the management of this center are purely focused on money. The costing and charging rules are convoluted and opaque, and are essentially smoke and mirrors. Do not be fooled by their offers of discounts. If you leave early they will label you as AMA (Against Medical Advice) by a dubious psychiatrist. They label all people who leave early as AMA. They then impose an unjustified 2 day fine and also try to claw back the discount, by rebilling you. Do not be fooled by this Private Equity run business. Its owned by CRC Health who call the shots on the cashflow that they try to generate out of this place. All patients are recommended to do extended care in the various other buildings on the campus (another money making racket). By the way the food is bland and the rooms are worse that a cheap roadside motel with 3 beds per room

I’m a therapist in LA with a client who had serious addiction issues. I helped him all I could, but we both decided that he needed inpatient care. The Meadows gave him what I couldn’t—ongoing, intensive full-time therapy. Now that he’s back, I can see that he’s made quite a bit of progress dealing with his addiction.

They put woman sex addicts with men. And my husband ands this female sex addict hooked up together and they were having sex at the facilities. I do not recomend the Meadows. All they are interested in is MONEY!!!!!!!!!! Don't go there. Its a horrible place with lousy therapists. No one I know who went there has it worked for. Go somewhere else, the Meadows doesn't work and Pia Mellody's advice is on-school! Go to Pine Grove.

I checked in to the Meadows for a survival workshop only. i stayed at the hotel recommended down the street. Once there, the y convinced me i was unable to make decisions for myself and kept pulling mme out of my workshops several times each day telling me i needed to stay there and pay the $40,000 fee. she refused to allow me to speak with family members or my therapist about this forced suggestion of hers. she told me she could not let me continue on in my state unless i agreed to pay the $40.000. she also refused to let me see a nurse because i was starting to feel sick and terrified. i snuck out and tried to hide behind a car to let my family and doctor know what they were doing to me. I escaped the facility per the orders of my doctor who was fearful they would get a restraining ordere on me claiming a lie that i was suicidal or homicidal. this was far worse than the rape or sexual abuse i had received as a child. they played off my vulnerabilities in order to get the "sale". when i finally made it safely back home. my doctor discovered others who hhad my exact same horrific experience. the staff appeared to be cult like as if the Pia Melody character was their god. I can barely apeak of this experience because i breakdown with how horrific the entire experrience was. i hope no other person has to experience what i did ever agaain. Thia facility should be shut down. I contacted the state licensing board as soon as i arrived home. If you have had a similar experience, you should also contact them.

This place saved my life. I thought I was going crazy w/ thoughts that I had been molested as a child, and I found tons of support there and other women who were in the same boat as me. The boundary work and communication exercises are invaluable, as were Survivors & Family weeks. As far as the suicides go, people who are actively suicidal, i.e. have a plan, have written a note, etc. should not go to the Meadows. It is only a level 1 hospital. It is not locked and they don't use restraints. They do a good job, however, of keeping patients razors, etc. locked up. Although it was incredibly annoying to ask for permission to shave my legs, I understand the logic.

My now ex-husband was treated at The Meadows for various addictions, including sex addiction. He all but attacked me during family week. He convinced the staff I had repeatedly beaten and raped HIM! The staff gave me absolutley NO support or guidance, and failed to keep me safe. After his rape allegations they refused to even say hello to me. It was later revealed that my ex is a sociopath. During a custody battle following his treatment at The Meadows, Dr. B, the psychiatrist, told the court evaluator the my ex-husband was not an addict and had no mental problems. My ex laughed about this as he claims he never spend more that two minutes with that doctor.

There are two reported cases of inpatient suicide at THE MEADOWS of Wickenburg. In November of 2004, R. Matthew "Matt" Burne, age 37, completed suicide while in the (unlocked) Acute Wing of this renowned facility. Previously, in March of 1999, Denise Lee Dixon also perished from suicide while an inpatient - and in the care of - THE MEADOWS. Matt Burne and Denise Dixon had each reached out to THE MEADOWS for help, yet both died there. They were tragically and irreversibly failed by this fully licensed/accredited AZ hospital and its staff. For more detailed information about THE MEADOWS of WICKENBURG, and to read Matt's and Denise's personal stories, please refer to Break the Silence at: Break-the-Silence dot org. Good treatment, poor judgement

Good treatment, poor judgement

It seems that any sociopath who knows how to work the system can get rid of any patient they don't like..it only takes the patient saying that someone made her feel "unsafe", which can be almost anything. I witnessed this with my own eyes and the who who was kicked out of the program was left to her own devices with no compassion at all from the administration. That could have led to a very disastrous situation given that the girl was released back into real life in the middle of a small desert town.
