Think twice before you send anyone you care about here. My husband was kicked out after he caught the director being inappropriate with a recent client of another Atlanta Mission establishment. He kicked my husband0 out knowing he would be looking at a possible 10 year sentence. Three days later he admitted he had a sexual addiction and resigned. When the president was approached with the issue he refused to speak with us saying that he didn't care about The Potters House and any readmission would go thru the staff, The staff would not re admit him. They said his file had to many violations. He was never wrote up. He had not ever been phased back. The Potters House staff does not care about their clients. My husband is waiting to be sent to prison now. This establishment should be shut down for treating people that way.

Of course its a free program, your required to dig through piles of dirty, flea & bed bug ridden clothes all morning, 6 hours a day, 6 days a week, to be distributed to one of their many thrift stores and sold for profit to run operations... Asthma and allergy suffers beware. Im all for working for your stay, but thats ridiculous. Christianity, mainly, their Religion is shoved down your throat on a Daily Basis. Very strict rules apply and religious legalism is prevalent. If you have no concept of God this could prove quite difficult, especially in the studies and memorizing scripture. If you say...PRAISE THE LORD, HALLELUIAH,& AMEN alot, this will get you along way. Except the ones saying this when the staff was around, talked about their using, women and the millions of dollars they had and what they were going to do when they got 'OUT' These are the ones getting promoted in the program too. Our short term memories are shot, of course God can restore this and brain cells do grow back, but memorization is a big part of the program and creates unnecessary stress. The food isnt bad.Kiss your girlfriend good-bye, and be prepared to follow a whole bunch of rules that make no sense. One day a week is set aside for confronting others behavior, in which you choose people that have done or said the wrong things, and you confront them in front of 200 + people. Its a way for the staff to police everyone and their behaviors. It can be a very fun & challenging experience, but turns into a game after while. All in all, its up to you weather or not you want to stay sober and get off the junk thats killing you. If you do relapse and go back for help, You will be punished and they get extremely hard on you. I felt sorry for the guy with the mental issues, and yes its true, you mess up once, and your walkin with no help from the Potters House. I seen all to often forgiveness and Love are not the biblical principles the Potters House lives up to. So much for their brand of RELIGION. Enjoy your stay and make the best of it.

The Potter's House released my mentally ill brother onto the streets after they decided that they "could not help him." They DID NOT contact our family to inform us that he was being released, they DID NOT ATTEMPT to contact our family in any manner, they DID NOT attempt to make arrangements for him to be transferred into another program, they DID NOT attempt to assist with transportation. They simply released him onto the streets without any means of transportation, money, or contact with anyone. They released my mentally ill brother to fend for himself with absolutely NO help whatsoever. This put him in danger, this was unprofessional on ALL levels & most of all, UN-Christ like. Luckily, a GOOD Samaritan saw my brother walking, picked him up & carried him to a half way house where he contacted my mother & informed her of what happened. She then contacted The Potter's House & they confirmed that he "had done nothing wrong, but that they couldn't help him, so they just turned him away." Wow. Just wow. I wonder how many they have done this to? I wonder how many more they will do this to? Can you imagine just turning someone out without at least contacting their family first or helping them make arrangements? A mentally ill person? ESPECIALLY when your ENTIRE purpose is to HELP others?

my husband is in this program and I can tell you first hand that it is excellent. It is pretty hectic there. It is basically a free program and the intake coordinator has many other responsibilities. I agree that addicts need to be talked to immediately, however try talking to a program that requires several hundred dollars to get into. They talk about codependance of the family members then expect them to pay those several hundreds of dollars. A drug addict will most likely just take the money and run. I LOVE the Potter's House. My husband is being restored! Heal the man, heal the family! So in turn my family is being restored.
