Extremely rude, non-compassionate staff. This facility should be closed down, and the employees should seek work in some sort of law enforcement due to the fact that they treat patients like criminals as opposed to sick people in need of physical and mental rehabilitation.

I would Like to express my gratitude and appreciation for the helpful staff and experience at Oakdale during my 20 days of recovery. The center is understaffed and it is an old facility BUT The Staff are the key to beginning your recovery. Although it is no Malibu play ground... you are there to learn structure and receive some tools to help YOUR recovery. The Staff was very helpful and are dealing with a lot on a shoestring budget. PLEASE go in with an open mind and take some of the knowledge the staff has to offer. They place is a great beginning you will get what you put into the program. If you want surf and turf while you are being treated like Lindsey then go to Malibu and quit complaining. It is a recovery center not a day spa fellow addicts..... Thank you for the help 31 days sober and counting... Best Regards, "Uncle Charlie" Geritol Mafia......

Oakdale recovery center is so disgusting. There are bugs/spiders everywhere. The building is so dirty. I didnt learn anything about addiction. Although I did learn how to shoot up heroin and how to make crack. The only people who give you the time of day are some of the pcas. Oakdale is so short staffed. Patients basically do what they want. Patients have sex with each other. Patients threaten and bully the staff and other patients, and its tolerated. The program director yells at the patients like we are worth nothing. I cant believe he is in this field. He has no compassion for addicts, and acts as if hes better than everyone. The therapist are overall nice, but you barely get any time with them. Theres never enough food. I dont even want to think about what diseases are in there. Oakdale is a terrible place. It is far from a health facility. I would not recommend it to anyone.. EVER!

Only half the staff & nurses we compassionate & respectful. The nurse practioner was never available. Food was disgusting. They lock your rooms for the majority of the day. The majority of the therapists are amazing. Most of the nurses were on a power trip along with a few of the pcas. You dont really get any education on addiction. You spend all your day in the cafeteria. You can only make 2 five minute phone calls a day that are usually cut short bc the staff is lazy. You share a bedroom with usually 3-5 people. You share a bathroom with 5-7 people. The only time you go outside is for 5 to 10 min. smoke breaks. You get no exercise. Overall the best experiance we the few staff members that cared more about helping people than the money. The therapists. I got more out of talking to the other clients than anything else. Let me throw in that the program manager cares nothing but money and is on a power trip 24/7. They break many civil rights in the center.

My daughter was in Oakdale for 3 days. She was over medicated to the point that she could barely talk or walk. The they released her after 3 days and I was advised to pick her up. When I arrived she was wondering around the parking lot with a blanket around her and could hardly walk. When I entered the facility to complain, they refused to talk to me. Need to have this investiagated further.

- Details:
I was in Oakdale twice, the time was in July 2002. I am still clean and sober today, going on 9 years. Both of my experiences were not the greatest; however, the first time I was there in 1999 I was not serious. I was not there to acquire tools to cope with life and myself. I was more interested in getting out of trouble. The last time in 2002, I had hit my bottom after 22 years of shooting heroin. I did whatever it took to maintain my abstinence and recovery. I took what I needed and left the rest. It goes without saying that addicts that just get clean are not the most positive people on the planet and it is much easier to look at others and point out what is wrong than look at ourselves. Concerning all the comments on how dirty and nasty Oakdale is...my active addiction took me to many dope houses that were far more nasty than Oakdale. Just you just have to be at your bottom and do whatever it takes.
