I entered Hope Valley May 10th of 2014 and completed their 28 day program and there were both great thing and NOT so great things about Hope Valley. First I wanna say the good....My counselor Richie was great. I had a rough time at first and had a few days where I hated the world and everyone in it and was EXTREMELY rude to Richie for no reason and he didn't get upset with me in the least. I apologized a few days later and he accepted my apology and everything was fine. The food was great! Some people didn't care for it too much but they mainly catered to the "good ole country boy" like myself with mostly fried food which I loved. Unlike other rehab facilities there was a lot of freedom. Being able to walk down to the park that's 1/4-1/2 mile down the road for an hour or so each day was VERY nice. Now for the bad....the pets that are kept on the premises do cause the place to be a bit unsanitary at times. One of the dogs while I was there got sick and roughly 15-20 times a day would diarrhea in the floor and one time the dog crapped on one guys bed. After I had been there about a week I got legitimately sick (NOT dope sick) and one of the staff members who will remain anonymous kept giving me crap about laying on my bed during the day and missing classes KNOWING I was sick. Turns out he thought I was faking it and I had to go talk to another staff member about it and they told him to back off. One guy got busted bringing drugs with him and was allowed to stay, not sure why. The MAIN issue I had was that a lot of the minor rules would be enforced for some people and not for others. It wasn't so much special treatment as it was one staff member would say that it was alright to do something and another staff member would say otherwise. One example we had a guy that would shower and instead of drying and getting dressed BEHIND the shower curtain as everyone did he thought it was appropriate to stand 100% nude in the middle of the bathroom and "air dry" for 15-20 minutes twice a day regardless of how many people were in there with him. This guy had some slight mental issues I might add but we asked him to stop and informed the staff when he didn't and other than telling him "hey man don't do that" they did nothing when he kept on doing that twice a day EVERY day. Things like that.....but overall yes Hope Valley is a great place and if you can overlook a few minor inconveniences then yes I HIGHLY suggest this place to anyone who's serious about getting and STAYING sober. I hope this review helps someone out there trying to decide if this is the place for you or not, it was the right choice for me and helped change my life for the better. I would have lost EVERYTHING without it. Thanks Hope Valley!

It wasn't so much special treatment as it was one staff member would say that it was alright to do something and another staff member would say otherwise. For example we had a guy that twice a day he would shower and instead of standing BEHIND the shower curtain to dry off and get dressed he would openly stand out in the MIDDLE of the bathroom and instead of drying with a towel would "air dry" for about 20 minutes COMPLETELY nude regardless of how many people walked in and seen him. So we told the counselors that was making us uncomfortable to see that and they asked him to stop but he NEVER did and even though we kept asking him to stop AND telling the staff they never did anything other than just say "hey man, don't do that" a couple times. Just stuff like that.....overall though it is a great place to heal and learn how to get and STAY sober and he's I would recommend it to others. I would simple forewarn others that there will be little incidents that will be annoying and possibly even piss you off but I had to learn to overlook those things and simply tell myself, "it could be FAR worse and just be thankful you have this chance to get well".....I hope this helps someone make their decision whether to choose Hope Valley or not. I hope you do!

I recently went through the 28 day program at Hope Valley. I am grateful the facility is there and operating, it saved my life. I also miss Sam and Sparky, they were important to me, as I am a pet owner and it eased the anxiety of missing them. Because of what I learned there, applying it to my life everyday, I am changing for the better. I will be forever grateful for Hope Valley.

Cons: The first thing I saw when I came to the facility was a dog, then another dog, then I was barked at by 2 other dogs ( all inside the building). Throughout the day there would be additions to the already insurmountable amount of dog piss stains, not to mention a fresh pile of dog crap down the hallway nearly every morning and all times throughout the day. I don't know what purpose all the dogs serve there and don't know why they are inside the building but they are DISGUSTING. Aside from that horrible experience, there was another patient there using drugs on the faculty!! Pros: Staff were friendly and knowledgable. Classes were informative. Aside from the guy using drugs, most of the other patients were friendly and wanting to stay sober. Lots of freedom and free time and I was allowed to leave the property with my family on the weekends for a few hours.

Pros: Inexpensive (~$3200) 30 day program. All the food you can east. a Moderate amount of freedom for visits & phone calls. Some recreation facilities to use during the very minimal classroom & counseling sessions. Cons: the director, counselors, and most the staff are "in recovery" themselves. Not uncommon in these joints. But it seems like several have fried a few TOO many brain cells back in their days to be working a professional job. It's also extremely religious (oops "spiritual") even as 12 steppers go. "Get down on your knees morning & night to pray for your sobriety." The food is decent, but mostly deep-friend unhealthy stuff; I put on 10 lbs. Janitorial chores demanded every day of all inpatients (unless physically disabled.) Then there are the other patients (max capacity is about 22.) A few are serious about getting straight. 70% of us were there as a "hail Mary" attempt to appease the court, with criminal trail or sentencing pending. Everyone smokes like mad on the back porch; a plus if you're a smoker -- get friggin used to it otherwise.

If you are an addict an really need a place that understands or will think of welcoming you forget this place...they don't except insurance nor do they detox. They are not understanding at all. I have a son who went there over 6 years ago and was using the next day or so. Recently a friend who sent a family member had completed detox was interviewed but turned down thank the lord after arrival. They have a porche parked out front. I wouldn't waste the money or time on this facility. The counseler looks as if he is still in withdrawals. I know of one other young male who went and it was not helpful for him.

HORRIBLE STAFF!!

HORRIBLE STAFF!!
Details:

The director ( Benji) cares WAYY more about proving how big and bad he is than the recovery of the people there. He needs to be replaced with someone who actually cares about the recovering addict's progress and needs. The only people that work there that are worth A DIME are Van King and Ben. They are awesome councilors and deserve to be working under someone who cares as much as they do... Benji is a complete joke and a horrible director... whats his qualifications for director? I dont even think he has a High-School diploma..
