I called over a week ago trying to get my son in. The first person to take the call was awesome and understood my stress, took all the info and said someone would call me but to keep calling as well. Said they thought they would have a bed and to call back at noon. I did and the NASTIEST woman answered the call. Completely insensitive to the situation and I was not in the the frame of mind to deal with such bs when my son needed help ASAP. A week later, after being sent to another facility, he wants to be moved so I called again - first person (and I know it's a call center in California on the weekends) was great. I called back again and got this same nasty woman who was giving me crap for 10 minutes. WTF..So in the midst of this, and waiting, I decided to read the reviews to see if I was going to actually help him by moving him there or make him want to run to his drug dealer the first day in. Someone said it best - there are the people who really don't want help who are going to bitch and complain about everything. Then there are the ones who truly need help and suck up the bad and just do what is needed to be done. I'm torn to be honest. He wants help, but if the admissions people are any indication of the care and compassion piece, then I don't want any part of it. The one thing that bothers me the most as well is the availability of drugs - there are some other places that I know you can get better drugs in than on the street. He's told me about some of the places and I just don't get it. The last place he was in made it almost impossible. Then I see posts about patients shooting heroin in their rooms...My kid doesn't ask for much - be able to smoke, make a call home now and then, and to be able to see his young son maybe once a week. He will whine and complain at probably anywhere he goes, but I'd like to know he has a fighting chance to get healthy..Not impressed so far at all..looking for an alternative..and to the person that apparently only works weekends and is a total bitch - get a new job. You're in the wrong job if you are that rude to a parent in crisis!

Horrible place. Did not ask if I had supplemental insurance until I was there and then would not take me after they found out I had Medicare. My ride had already left, 2 hour drive and they could not get me home for 25 hours. Would not give me my meds, no towels, no structure, no orientation, did not transfer me to a hospital that could take me, lied about talking to them, staff rude and non-responsive, patients just hung out smoking all the time, no therapy, orientation or counseling. This is not a place to go get well!

My name is Jery and I attended Bowling Green over two years ago. It was a first rate facility. The recovery was excellent, the food was good and the rooms were clean. I don't have any idea what these people are talking about when they say this place is no good. I know many people in the meetings that are still clean as a result of Bowling Green. I have read some bad reviews on this site and I can tell you that they are all BS. It was a fantastic rehab and I have recommended it to hundreds of people since I have been out. 2 thumbs way up.

I wish I could say the negative reviews were the result of the typical addict mentality but after being there personally I can attest to their validity. Fortunately, after waiting five days for a bed and traveling five hours to the facility, I was notified on my second day I would have to leave because they were unable to accept my insurance (a upon my arrival ,during lengthy intake process, my insurance was accepted and approved). My higher power was at work because I was transferred to an amazing facility in Annapolis. Now, after almost seven years clean, I can share my horror stories from"Natzi Bootcamp Rehab " a I affectionately refer to it.

My name is John W. I was a patient not too long ago at Bowling Green and i have read all the reviews on this website. It seems to me that there are two types of people that reviewed Bowling Green. Ones that hate it, and ones that love it. It was the same when I was there. The people that love Bowling Green were the ones like myself, people that wanted recovery and who were willing to follow directions. The ones that hated it were the pain in the ass patients who could have cared less about getting clean, And couldn't even follow the simplest of directions. So I am sure the reviews are the same. I found the facility to be one of the best places I have ever been. The staff (especially Pete) were very caring and helpful throughout my stay. They went out of their way to make sure I had what it takes to live a drug free life. Please do not believe the bad reviews because they are not true. People that don't want to stay clean bitch about everything. They don't like this or don't like that. They complain about everything. Everybody in my group thought the place was fantastic. And personally I can't thank Bowling Green enough.

My experience here was a nightmare. I felt as though I had been kidnapped. They provided transportation from Pittsburgh. Before going there, they had promised to keep me on a medicine that I had been taking for 13 years and not abusing. I had gone there to fulfil a legal requirement and had not been abusing anything, and my drug screen on arrival was "clean". Regardless of this, I was placed in the "detox" area for 3 days (I'm sure they are reimbursed at a higher rate for detox days) and they did take me off the medicine they had promised not to. After I was there for 2 weeks the withdrawal from that was unbearable and unsafe. I repeatedly told staff and administration that I was dizzy, sick, and could not bear it, but they did nothing. I collapsed, breaking my ankle. My foot was hanging off the end of my leg, as it was a trimalleolar fracture. As the medics were carrying me out, I could hear the staff shouting, "Don't give her anything! She can't have narcotics"! They didn't treat the excruciating pain until I was at the hospital. I had surgery the next day, and then I was stuck, 300 miles from home. I insisted that the rehab get me back home, so they sent a very resentful driver, who drove me back, then dumped me and my belongings (which had been thrown into a garbage bag) onto the sidewalk at the bottom of 32 steps, with my walker and no phone. They should be ashamed of how they treated me; it was criminal.

I've had the pleasure of attending BGB on three different occasions. The first time was my first time ever being at any treatment facility. So I didn't know what to expect and had no basis for comparison. Overall I was displeased to say the least. The facility itself, while on a golf course and surrounded by a quiet and serene atmosphere, was dirty and very dated. Most assuredly NOT what the brochure and website showed. Upon arrival I was just thrown into the mix. My spouse was misinformed on how often his contact would be with me. I had no clue where I was supposed to go and what I was to be doing. One of my detox roommates happened to be there one day prior to me and fortunately was able to help me out a little. The nursing staff were rude and uncaring. I was given a urine test upon arrival and began my detox 24 hours later. Two weeks into my stay I was told I was pregnant. Having used the urine sample I provided two weeks prior to determine this. So they let me detox for two weeks and could have killed my baby. But everything was ok. I slipped on their property another week later and they medically discharged me since I was on bed rest after the fall. I was put on methadone after leaving since I wasn't ready to be back in the real world. After the first two days of lectures at BGB I found them all to be repetitive and boring. My second stay was to get stable on a dose which after having the doctor there drop me to 20mgs from 120mg and being in extreme withdrawal I AMA'd. He refused to listen to my symptoms. My third and definitely last stay I lasted 4 weeks. I had just had my baby and was able to go visit her while she stayed in the hospital. I had just returned from a visit when another client gave me coffe they had smuggled in. I wound up getting caught with it and when I refused to rat someone out for coffee I was discharged the following morning. No slap on the wrist, no warnings, nothing. The staff became cold and unsympathetic to my situation as I stood to lose my baby to the state if I didn't complete treatment. But the director wanted to make an example out of me. My counselor did nothing nor did the techs. I was always helping newcomers, participated in chores and made every meeting. I was never a problem. They are inconsiderate and allowed others who had been cause sneaking out to stay. The best thing about BGB was Petey Crack and Kieth. You guys taught me what I needed to stay strong. Other then that, this place is horrible

My father was almost turned away at the door after a week of being told he was set to be checked in on Friday. Bowling Green tried denying him due to insurance even after insurance assured them they would cover it. There was a total lack of communication between the administration and nurses/counselors. My Dad was then discharged after 10 days without any reasons or contact to his family or counselor from home. HIs nurse/counselor did absolutely nothing as far as setting up an outpatient program for him or plan to keep him on the road to recovery. For a business that's whole job is too provide addicts the adequate care and set them on a path for success, this place failed miserably.

i was a client at this facility for 3 weeks and i feel as though i owe my life to this place. the techs that work there and give lectures truly know what they are talking about. there was a little bit of chaos going on when i first arrived due to the new detox building but even with that chaos i felt as though i was being very well cared for. it did take 3 days before i could actually talk to someone about the availability of a bed but once the phone call came through i was able to get up there that day. it took about 12-18 hours before i received my detox medications but once that was taken care of everything went pretty smoothly. i do not really remember the first few days of my stay but after 5 days of detox i was moved to the rehab portion of this facility. i would like to say that i DID learn A LOT of great information that i plan to implement in my life so that i can live my life from here on out in recovery...one last thing...be prepared to sit in very uncomfortable chairs for most of every day :). if you take your recovery seriously...this is the place i would recommend coming to.

Hello my name is Tom , I recieved treatment at this facility in may/ june of 2102. Prior to my treatment, I had been battling addiction for over 14 years. At the age of 45 having no self worth or self respect i had given up on the idea i mattered. I had thrown away my life ,my wife, my children and a bright future.I came to this facility totally broken . This was my 3rd rehab in 14 years. The level of care i recieved, was by far the BEST care i have recieved . I was treated with much more dignity, respect and compassion than i had felt in years ! Every single one of my need were met . The Staff at bowling green were phenominal, caring indivduals ,who at least for me cared more about me than i did my self at that time. I was told i mattered , i am not alone and recovery IS POSSIBLE, if you are willing ,honest, open minded, and ready to surrender. FRom that point on EVERYTHING changed for me.I saw HOPE in through their experiences , and was given tons of knowledge from the entire staff.Everyone from nusing , to the techs, treated me with respect , and at times love. My review cannot come close to explain my experience at bowling green!I would have to write a book to describe it all. So to keep it simple i would like to say " IF you truley want to find out who you are , whats wrong with yourself, and why you find yourself unworthy of living an AMAZING NEW WAY of life THAT FILLED WITH JOY PEACE AND HAPPINESS," than i suggest you COMMITT just 30 days to this program at this facility. you owe this to yourself your loved ones and YOU ARE WORTH IT ! My gradtitude for BOWLING GREEN and the staff GOES BEYOND WORDS! THANK YOU ALL!!! especially my friend PETE.

When I was dropped off there I thought I had arrived in hell. The staff are a bunch of low class ex-addicts who treat the clients like dirt. I wanted to leave and was not allowed to make a call. The food was disgusting and the counseling was a joke.

Have tried to get help from them for a month now. Try have never contacted the correct department at insurance company. Staff has been extremely rude even trying to make me pay a huge "fee" just in case ins co doesn't pay even though they are contracted with ins company and they have agreed its covered. No one calls me back. I am giving up with dealing with them as far as rehab but the way I've been treated legal ramifications may follow as I was told if you really want to help your son come up with $3150. How is that for "caring treatment" during such a trying time

I want everyone who is serious about getting their life back together that this is the place. I have been to six rehabs in the past and have never seen a place where the staff cares this much. Rehabs have to pay their bills so of course they charge money. But the clinical staff are so passionate about saving your life. They put your addiction right in your face so you have no choice but to deal with it.Thank you so much for getting me to see what drugs were doing to me. God bless you all.

My wife was just at Bowling Green. I was in a car accident when she was there and nobody told her until a week later. When she was released, I thought she was coming home, to find out they talked her into not coming here because it wasn't a good place because we are moving and the stress. The counselor, I called several times in a 4 day period never returned my phone calls.

I had no hope for a better life and was ready to throw in the towel. BGB gave me back my life which i had taken away from myself!!! The staff there were amazing from the techs(Pete, and Dave especially), the counselors(Jim,Joe,Andy,Liz,DeeDee) the nurses and even my boys in the kitchen. BGB and the staff gave my parents back their son, my son back his father, my sisters have their brother and my fiance got me back! Life cannot get any better now. To the staff and BGB I am forever grateful!

I credit this rehab with saving my life. The staff is caring without being overwhelming. If you want recovery from substance abuse they will insure that you will receive the tools that you will need in order to be successful. There are more modern facilities than Bowling Green, however Bowling Green gets the job done if you want recovery.

As a family member I can't thank Bowling Green enough. My wife was at Bowling Green in April/May 2011 and has now celebrated nine months of sobriety. I took her to Bowling Green the evening of Easter, 2011. It was her fourth Rehab placement and by far the most effective. I agree with my wife when she say's that Bowling Green saved her life. She connected with the Counselors and their real life approach truely hit home. She left determined not to let the Bowling Green Counselors (in particular Pete) down. Thank you Bowling Green!

Bowling Green saved my life. This facility is holy to me. The staff is amazing, I can't stress that enough. They selflessly care, they became trusted friends and teachers to me. The nursing staff is amazing. Considering all of the verbal abuse that they receive from patients, I think they are incredibly kind & nurturing. The tools and knowledge that I was given in my month long stay is more than enough, Bowling Green & their staff is the reason I am still alive and happy right now. I would ABSOLUTELY recommend this place to ANYONE who wants to live a happy life off of drugs. Specifically Pete, Jim, Dave, Eileen and Gabby saved my life over and over. They know what they're doing, they know what they're talking about, and anyone who says otherwise is not serious about their recovery or their lives.

My name is Joshua and I'm an addict and Bowling Green saved my life. I'd been using drugs for seventeen years and I thought that's who I was and who I'd always be. I didn't believe I could live a life free of chemical dependency. I didn't believe in the possibility of hope. The staff at Bowling Green helped me lay a foundation for the rest of my life. They showed me the door but I had to walk through it. I was admitted to Bowling Green at the behest of the courts of Chester County on January 20th 2011. I just celebrated one year of continuous sobriety and i never would have been able to do that with out the help I received at Bowling Green. Sure the beds are not the most comfortable and the chairs aren't either, but I wasn't in rehab to be comfortable I was in rehab to get clean and to be shown how to live. There ARE locks on the doors and if anyone told a tech about a rape attempt you can be damn sure they would take it seriously. I see a lot of negative reviews on here but it is obvious to me they were all written by the same person. Addicts, especially those in active addiction, are unwilling to be responsible for their actions. We like to rationalize and justify our behaviors and actions. We like to blame everyone but ourselves for the damaged we have caused ourselves and others. If you are willing to keep and open mind and are willing to do the work to stay clean and sober then Bowling Green can put you on the right path. Listen to whats being said by the Techs and the counselors they have been where we all have been and they are willing to give back what they were freely given by helping addicts and alcoholics get some perspective. Special thanks to Pete, Taki, Johanna, Jim, Big Mike, Andy, Andrew, and the fantastic nursing staff. I have nothing but gratitude for Bowling Green and AA/NA for doing for me what I could not do for myself. My name is Joshua and I'm an addict and I am alive and sober today because of Bowling Green and the process of recovery outlined in the Twelve Steps.

This is a place where you want to pay attention, learn and work the steps of AA/NA. The staff, particularly Jim, Pete and Stacey were great. They really care about the clients mental and physical being and I really learned that being sober can be a good thing. Also, the meetings in the barn are great. I loved the location, and all of the staff and the accommodations were great! I would recommend this facility to anyone in need of getting and keeping clean and sober. This place saved my life and I hope that it keeps on saving lives. Thanks Pete and Jim!!!

Hi everyone, to who ever is reading this Bowling green does work, My name is Leo Ayala I submitted my self into rehab the day of my birthday October 22nd 2011 I had enough of the drinking and I was ready to change I went there for a total of 34 days that was the best investment I could have paid for. I had changed and had a different output on life than when I wasn't sober. The Staff were amazing and the counselors as well, they may be tough on you sometimes but it's for your own good! Not to scare anyone. Overall Bowling Green is a safe enviornment to get educated and get your self sober, I didn't want to leave the place. The people there were like my 2nd family they helped me through my addiction and become sober Right now I am I think 3 months sober I think or more! Bowling Green does help

Bowling Green Inn is not the place a addict needs to be. Basically the nursing staff sit and watch patients do nothing all day and feed valium for "recovery". They push methadone on patients even without opiates in their system. etc crack withdraw. Street drugs are all over the facility and staff treats patients like dirt. I would not recommend this rehab to ANYONE. If you need help this is NOT the place you want to be.

I went to Bowling Green for 28 days. I must warn folks who think that detox will happen immediately: it doesn't. You must first submit a dirty urine sample, which is shipped to a lab for testing. Only after the results have been faxed from the lab to Bowling Green are you detoxed. Once I was detoxed, however, my stay at Bowling Green wasn't so bad. As another has posted, there are *no* distractions at Bowling Green. We didn't even get to watch the Superbowl. They definitely need more staff, though, as there definitely were drugs inside of the facility. There were also a multitude of fights during my stay, mainly between women. I think the percentage of folks in there that were court stipulated had something to do with this. Drugs come into the facility via three main channels: during outside NA/AA meetings, during visits and during intake of new patients (full strip searches are not implemented). Also, people are constantly nodding out due to Bowling Green's support of methadone maintenance programs. If you can overlook these things, however, and stay focused on your own recovery, Bowling Green can be a very pleasant and serene place. A recovering addict just needs a desire to stay clean and some information on how to live in recovery to succeed, wherever they choose to get treatment.

This place is horrible!!!! They should close down. I had a family member go there in April, 2010 and there were people doing drugs while there, sneaking drugs in, and dealing drugs while in treatment! Totally ridiculous and no supervision. It first started with telling my family member that they would be picking him up on Tuesday morning, then it changed to 1pm, then 3pm, then they said they were an hour away and then they said they messed up and would be there the next morning! Well that turned into the next night! How the hell do you expect an addict to wait to get picked up for rehab for 3 weeks!?! Horrible staff and no communication with the drivers at all. There is no way an addict can go here for treatment when they are surrounded by drugs in the facility! Bowling Green Brandywine should be sued!

We currently have a family member in this facility. Thank God for the staff and whole facility. They know their stuff and are great at what they do. Of course, some of the patients will complain and bitch for one thing or another but they aren't thrilled to be coming down off of their drugs. This is a third attempt at a rehab and this so far is the most successful. I realize it's a day by day thing but this was the best place to go for this problem. Attend the Sunday visitation, specifically the hour BEFORE you see your loved one. It teaches us (the enablers) how to regain our lives and what to expect here after. We learned alot through this hour each week, prior to seeing our loved one. God it's so nice to reclaim our house, without the locks on things etc. I was so afraid we never would get this far along...thank GOD. Best wishes to you and your families.

I went to Bowling Green for 28 days for addiction to pain pills. I thank God on a daily basis for this facility. I heard tons of complaints from other patients most of them didnt want the help. I checked myself in and wanted help and the staff was there for me every step of the way. Majority of techs and counselors are recovering addicts themselves and I think this is EXTREMELY important since they understand what we as addicts are going through. There are no outside diversions at Bowling Green No TV, or radio not much time to socialize but that keeps you focused on your recovery. As for what the other reviewer said about clients getting caught doing drugs and not getting kicked out. I personnally believe that you are gonna find usage at any facility, I knew clients who used and got kicked out of Bowling Green but i also knew one who didnt get kicked out. I think it is an individual consideration as to what to do with those caught using I do have to say that the clent I know that was allowed to stay is very gratefull that they were given a second chance and has not picked up since that incident in November. My advice to anyone is stick with the positive people thats what I did and dont worry about what others are or arent doing worry about and concentrateon you and your own recovery. I highly recommend Bowling Green although I just got out at the end of November I believe I am a success story. Bowling Green was my first rehab and I hope and pray it is my last.
