The councelors are always right, the clients are always wrong. They prejudge, speak abusively, and ridicule clients. Councelors also lie to family members and loved ones making them worry more and causing more distress. When I returned home I was shocked when I found that all the information given to my loved ones by councelors was untrue. Staff is inconsistant about rules and unclear as to what they are. They inforce the rules with bizarre and unfair punishment such as;not being aloud to speak for long periods, pleasure deprivation, or discharge for the smallest infraction. If discharged the $1000.00 per week is non-refundable. Extented stay clients are forced to work even when they not well. Heat is used sparingly or not at all in winter. Clients are put in positions of authority, which they tend to abuse.Recovery activities are only available three hours per day, the rest is meal time or down time spent in front of the television. The food is low grade and usually is some form of chicken. The only drinks available are sugar water with food coloring added. Over all I was very disappointed in the quality of the rehab from the poor fitting sheets to the power tripping councelors. The nursing staff was good for the most part, but don't turn your back on them lest you wind up with the proverbial knife in the back supported by more lies. If you need help and are serious about getting clean and sober put Phoenix House at the bottom of your list.
