I came to this place on the verge of death and did not want to be here. The counselors were very caring and really helped me see that I could stay clean and sober. The facility was ok and they were finishing a new building. I would recommend this place to anyone.

I drove 6 HOURS to go to this treatment center because of how good I heard it was. I was greeted with some woman screaming outside about somebody hooking up with her man and people pretty much just running free. It had a gross, co-ed dorm vibe. The facility was absolutely disgusting with people running wild everywhere. There is no front desk and you pretty much have to find your way to check in. I was there for 10 minutes and drove 6 hours all the way back home. Seriously contemplating on reporting that place.

The Dr in charge owns many methadone clinics and wants to keep everyone who comes from the surrounding areas on methadone so she can profit from them for many years. If you do not fit into this group of participants willing to stay on methadone you are disregarded and treated with little or no professional help. The food is awful and the staff is very slow. This is a place where you really have to advocate for yourself because your counselor and the dr won't. I'm so dissapointed in my treatment I'm seriously considering suing for malpractice. There is no dr at the facility or on call 24/7 so if something goes wrong they send you to the er. I was o Ing off of methadone matinence and no one checked my vitals signs or made sure I was drinking or eating for four days. I ended up having to go to the er for dehydration. There are so many people and very little supervision aka people screwing in the bathrooms.... Gross. The staff exspecially counselors are very jaded from years of working with drug addicts so they assume everyone is lying. This is a really messed up place. I hear it used to be great but something has gone terribly wrong.

my stay here was well worth the price but if you try to leave early they will not allow you to use their phones and told me they were going to help me kill myself. i left due to major hostilities in the patients and that caused me to be severely homesick. i did not leave so i could relapse and thought how ignorant of a coucelor to say that to a recovery patient. the dr here is good and got me straight off of alcohol yes it makes you a bit sleepy and shakey but it was better than drinking, you are also in the midst of all kinds of addicts including heroine so you might see a bit of seizures while you are there as they are detoxing, but all in all this did work for me and you have to continue with AA or NA after you leave. they gave me naltrexone and i ahvent crave or drank in nine days. it is a miracle, but much much drama everyday.

I was serious in my recovery from Alcohol and the staff went beyond what was needed to assure my success. Many of the counselors are recovered addicts and fully understand the grips of addiction. Food was very good, building is showing its age but still a good experience. I highly recommend The Life Center of Galax. Jeff R.

Cheating at rehab

I want to thank Galax for letting my husband take his off time with another addict. He was sent there to get better not go off with some HO. Don't you people monitor your paitents where abouts and who they are with. We are sitting at home worring about our loved ones and you are letting them screw around on us, we don't find out until they are home and calling these bitches. We went through hell while they are addicted and now we go through hell trying to recoop our marriages. You shold look on the alanon message boards where rehab has ruined peoples lives because you have no rules in rehab and you can't keep your eye on your patients. We should be able to sue the rehab centers for our money back.

Balance life

Balance life
Details:

I am the wife of a recovering alcholic who attended the Galax Treatment Center. He told me that he was told at Galax that his sobriety came before anything. Does that mean quality time with your family? He goes to meetings every night and leaves me at home and skips out on family events. Should you also mention that sobriety comes with balancing your life between work, family and God? I am not happy that I feel this way, as a matter of fact I am ashamed of myself. I just need some attention too and there are things around the house that need his attention and he just ignores it and says no matter what nothing can interfere with his sobriety. Is there anyone else who feels left out of the loop?
