People in our society are so repelled by the idea of a Methadone Clinic opening in Lewisburg or other surrounding areas when they really should not be so judgmental about the idea and actually get the facts. Methadone is one of the most studied drugs in history! While Suboxone is a wonderful drug for opiod treatment, it is nor always effective as methadone is for heavier users. The people in our community who seriously need the help can't get it unless they drive to Beaver daily to receive treatment. The cost for the medication is $12.00 a day therefore, if you take someone living 10 miles up rt. 92 in White Sulphur Springs that is a hour and a half drive every day jso that, that person may better their life! Imagine the money one spends who is receiving treatment at the beckley center who is driving from our area. Our local citizens are paying $12 for the medication daily and around $15 daily in gas which is a total of THAT'S ALMOST $200.00 a week so that our citizens can be clean of drugs such as heroin, oxycotin, percocet and other highly addictive pain medications. Reasearch has also proven Methadone ( given in a treatment program) is effective in cocaine dependancy. You can google this for more information. I don't know that people are truly aware of just how incredibly bad the drug problem is here in Greenbrier County West Virginia. Currently there are 230 clients receiving help for addiction problems that go to the Beckley Treatment Center. If it was not so far away and so expensive I'm sure many more of our local men and women would be getting methadone treatment. I am not under no circumstance bashing the local Suboxone programs for I think it's wonderful to have that option for our people. The fact that Senaca's program is free for people who do not have Insurance is great but PLEASE UNDERSTAND SOME PEOPLE WITH ADDICTION PROBLEMS NEED METHADONE TO GET THEM TO RECOVERY!!! You may also google that. Yes, Methadone CAN be dangerous but so is every other legal and illegal drug on the street. We really need to think about this, Do we really want to not give our citizens with addiction problems the treatment they need? Would we rather them keep on ruining their lives doing heroin, Do we want our people to drive 2 hours every day and pay $200.00 every week just so they can get better? No, I hope you do not. Please fight for this. If there's anything you think you can do to help PLEASE by all means start a petition, talk to our governor, write him or people in authority letters do whatever you can to help our people to recover. I hear people say they don't want a facility in town where everyone can see it. That's not a very good excuse due to all the back roads and places out of city limits that are available. The beckley treatment center is on a nice little back road tucked away In the woods. Why couldn't Greenbrier county do the same? We can. Please speak up. If you have any ideas to help get this going please don't put it off. This is a serious matter that needs immediate attention. So many people could be helped along with Senaca's Suboxone program a Methadone Treatment Center in Greenbrier County would be of great benifit to our County and State. There are currently only two options for drug addiction recovery, Our county currently only has one to offer. Please help and do what you can so that Greenbrier County has two options for opiate and cocaine addiction. Thank You! Kelly

Details:

Suboxone does not work for everyone. In order to receive methadone I have to drive 2 hours daily AND wake up at 5am in order to be back in time for work. Gas is not cheap neither is Dr. Eitels Suboxone program. Senaca is affordable but suboxone dosent work for everyone.
