The unit is kepy VERY cold - the nurses and staff say "We have to work here, and we move around, so we must have it cool." I use 3 blankets, 2 shirts, a windbreaker and a winter coat, and syill and chilly. There's a breeze from overhead (Heating.cooling system, that blows my hair around, so I also wear a hat. There are several staff members who are rude to the patients, and talk about them where others can hear.

Heparin Eror

Heparin Eror
Details:

Yesterday I was given heparin, and I'm not supposed to have it. It's been this was for about 2 years. Unfortunately, I caught the mistake too late. Upon being told, the nurse gave me an antihistamine pill, and tried to reassure me the heparin would be dialyazed from my body in 1 1/2 hours. When I got home, I checked on the net, and found the following: Heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) is an adverse drug reaction characterized by thrombocytopenia and a high risk for venous or arterial thrombosis.1 It is caused by heparin-dependent, platelet-activating antibodies that recognize a "self" protein, platelet factor 4 (PF4), bound to heparin.

Typically, the platelet count fall begins 5 to 10 days after starting heparin, although a rapid platelet count fall can occur in a patient who has antibodies from recent heparin use.3

NOW, ISN'T THIS HORRIBLE?? They said, "This is the 1st time it's happened'. Wonderful, and that's dupposed to make me feel better?

Why did it happen? WHAT i can figure out is there's another patient with the same last name as mine, and the person who put the packages together for each paitent got the two of us mixed up!!!
