Is Leesburg Regional Medical Center A Hiding Place for Bigots? My recent visit to the Emergency Room has me asking myself this question. After arriving with incapacitating stomach pain, the Emergency Room Doctor asked me when the symptoms started. Not thinking anything about it, I explained it was that evening while I was at a church meeting – and with that this Muslim attired doctor turned and left the room. He didn’t say a word and I never saw another Doctor after that encountered until a nurse told me I was being admitted. Was this because he is an extremist Islam, you decide. But, the treatment received clearly violates their own posted code of ethics that requires the patient be informed on their treatment plans. This, believe it or not, was not the worst of my visit. After being admitted, my assigned hospitalist discontinued even my own daily maintenance drugs, including a regime of pain medication I have been on for five-years since shattering my leg in the line of duty working for U.S. Homeland Security, which worsened my pain and quite likely caused additional harm. When I finally decided to leave for my own health, safety and welfare, my nurse insisted I had to sign a document that would hold the hospital, doctors, nurses and staff completely harmless and that I was waiving my rights to pursue any malpractice or mistreatment I received. This was absolutely ludicrous, as after being lied to by the nursing staff on numerous occasions and being told that I should just “trust” the doctors every time I asked about treatment plans or changes to my routine maintenance medications, I truly believe my health was in jeopardy by staying any longer. I couldn’t even speak with a Charge Nurse or Hospital Supervisor because every time I asked I was told they were busy and would be in a soon as they were available – which just never seemed to happen at all over the course of a ten-hour period. I will try to keep everyone up to date as I certainly plan on contacting my Insurance Carrier, a Medicare Management Plan, Medicare, the State of Florida and an Attorney to pursue this further. The Leesburg Regional Medical Center is clearly a danger to the residents of the community and needs to have the State come in and review their treatment (more accurately harm) of their patients.
