Insurance provider was not listed. Accident put me at the mercy of ambulance personnel to select nearest Hospital. Baylor Centennial was closest. Great care during my 4-night stay, including ICU. Not a minor accident. Next time I'm bleeding in the street, I'll make sure and verify what area Hospitals are in my insurance network. (yeah, right) Long story short, I convinced my insurance to pay as-if In-Network (in region reasonable and customary rates), which they paid direct to Baylor. Had it really been in-network, insurance payment would have resolved the bill completely. Baylor apparently bills at approximately (2X) in-region reasonable and customary rates to out of network patients. Bottom line, I owe out-of-pocket over $16k, after having already met a $4k annual deductible. I'm not rich, but I don't qualify for financial assistance. Only offer from Baylor was to spread payments over time. BSWH advertises to be the future of healthcare. If so, I can't afford it.

My mother was taken to the ER with a critical, life-threatening emergency. She had a dissecting abdominal aneurysm, and was bleeding internally. I told the paramedics, the nurses, and the doctor she had an aneurysm (I knew that for a fact), but they put her in a room in the ER and left her, screaming, for an hour, before a doctor ever came in. They finally took a CT scan after 3 hours, then panicked, because I was right all along. Since they couldn't handle that, they CareFlighted her to Parkland, where she died in surgery. The surgeon at Parkland said it was just too late. These people are idiots. They couldn't diagnose it even when I did it for them. CentennialHospitalKills.com
