My mother stayed at Big Elm for Rehab twice. Each time she had a private room. Yes, the rooms have older furnishings, but her room was always clean. Most of the CNAs and Nurses were incredible...always looking out for my mother, even though she can be a difficult at times. My mom said the food was delicious (she has been at 2 other rehab centers). Whenever I had a problem, I was able to reach out to the owner, Tom Gatewood, who handled the situation immediately (e.g., my mother's bottom dentures were taken and never recovered, but Big Elm helped her get another set)...he was wonderful to work with! Most of the other administrative staff was great as well, especially the PT personnel. There were exceptional CNAs and it was great when those were on duty. As we know, CNAs are overworked and underpaid, so I appreciated all they did for my mother. My mother has stayed at Pruitt in Harrisburg and Big Elm far showed kindness, patience, and general warmth, unlike Pruitt . As in any hospital, rehab, nursing home, etc., it is important to be the advocate for your loved one. Big Elm was a wonderful rehab facility! Highly recommend!
