Beware. I will never forget how the awfully clinical director treated when my father was diagnosed with cancer. When this place was under the previous clinical director’s expertise and compassion, I was privileged to work here as a counselor, and found it both an excellent place to work, and for clients in need of skilled, caring dual diagnosis treatment. Fast forward a few years. I went through some trauma, slipped, and came in for help getting back on track. Many of the wonderful staff remain, but now the place is under new clinical direction - she is young, arrogant, and woefully inexperienced and inflexible in understanding clients and providing individualized care. Why is she in charge, with no prior addiction experience while literally every other therapist there is more skilled and experienced? The position needed to be filled quickly, and she is the owner/founder’s daughter. After continually making assumptions about me and missing the mark, yet rigidly insisting she was right, she displayed outstanding cruelty and insensitivity two days before I was scheduled to return home. I found out in family therapy that my father, who I am extremely close to, has cancer. I am a highly sensitive person and was already struggling to hang in with being in a communal living environment, especially with many recent arrivals being allowed to behave unchecked like savages (loud, rude, making the place a dirty mess), so I decided to return home immediately. I had no desire to drink, and staying in those surroundings instead of returning to the peace of my home and support of my pet and friends would’ve been detrimental to my mental health. My therapist understood, and asked the director to bend their policy of not returning a client’s wallet, keys, and medications in the case of an unplanned discharge on Sunday morning outside of weekday business hours. She refused. I spoke to her on the phone; she continued to refuse and hung up on me. Freaking out, I ran into the closet where such personal property is kept, and was physically manhandled by a male staff member, grabbing and shoving me out. Luckily I was able to borrow my petsitter’s keys to get into my home until I was able to get my belongings 24 hours later, and if I hadn’t I would’ve stayed at a friends. Clearly this so-called clinical director has no insight into me if she thought she could hold me there against my will by holding my possessions hostage, and if she thought that was good for my mental health and sobriety. My take is that she’s insecure in her position, and tries to compensate by trying to control and manipulate people. I should’ve called the police instead of wasting $80 on Lyft rides back and forth the next day to claim my belongings. Needless to say, I’m done with recommending this place for treatment or employment; what good are the great staff when things are now run by this cruel, anal retentive, and underqualified child?

I am so thankful for Creative Care for not only saving my life, but also helping me believe in myself again and creating a new life that I never thought was possible. 5 years ago I was struggling from PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and a pill addiction. I was terrified of the world and my own war that I was living daily in my head. I saw many therapists during that time and no one knew what to do with me. Creative Care never gave up on me. The staff were so patient and loving towards me. From individual therapy and therapeutic groups at the facility, I began to love myself again and trust that I can be in control of my own life. I had assigned staff counselors helping me along my journey and gave me there undivided attention. I am also truly thankful for the family therapy given there. During my addiction i created a lot havoc and thought i destroyed relationships with my family. Creative Care and my therapist there educated my family on addiction and helped bring my family back together! At Creative Care, my therapist suggested that I should go back to school. I never thought I could that! …but I followed direction. Now I have almost 5 years clean and sober and completed my Master’s degree in psychology! None of this would be possible if it wasn’t for Creative Care believing in me and teaching me that life is too short to spend it scared. Thank you for saving my life.

My son went to Creative Care and received excellent care. They are truly a dual diagnosis treatment center and their clinical staff have many years of experience in this field. I also use to work there and have seen first hand the work that is being done. That is why after leaving employment there, I trusted them enough to send my son there. As a professional at another treatment center, we often use each other centers to get the clients the best and most effective care. Knowing Creative Care has been open for nearly 30 years is very reassuring and I can recommend it wholeheartedly!

Please heed all the warnings in these reviews. Your loved ones life is at stake. They pay consultants(interventionists) a percentage to keep the place stocked with victims. DO YOUR RESEARCH before committing to a treatment program for a loved one. At the beginning of this year, my daughter was in need of a facility that could deal with her addiction and PTSD from a traumatic event with her college boyfriend who she was living with for 2 years. She'd never been a drug user or drinker, so her admission to her father and I came as a shock during the holidays. We did extensive research which included Creative Care. What we were told on the phone is mostly untrue and over-exaggerated (we are from WLA, and very familiar with Malibu, I felt like the man on the phone assumed I was a bumpkin), the flip flop on costs quoting and then re-quoting 30 day treatment (twice) and the actual facility from the outside (there are actually several on that street 7 or 8 I think, taking up most of that section of that neighborhood) looked pretty unsafe just based on the surrounding hills, rocks, lack of street lighting and basic safety's overall. But that is not why we crossed it off our list. It was important to us that our daughter remain local due to the nature of what was happening in her life and we both agreed we'd want to be there if she needed us. My daughter's father is a litigation attorney in the city we live in and based on advice from a family we know who went through something similar, he decided to check out the credentials of the principal management of several of these centers (4 in total, out of 7), Creative Care being one we had already spoken to. What was discovered just by way of a simple internet search was the person who was "selling" us on the facility was a 2 time convicted felon, on three different counts, but primarily sent to prison for home robberies and was currently facing new charges from another incident that occurred in 2014. There were 6 total charges between 2003 and 2014 on this person and he was asking us for our financial information, credit card info, banking/wiring information and home and business addresses. Once we had seen it (and checked other credentials from the website) we just crossed it off the list, but recently I read an article about a well known person who was robbed by someone who she had used as a vendor and I wanted to advise people to please do their homework. While the need to get our daughter into treatment quickly was one of our primary concerns, we certainly did not want her in any situation where her safety and treatment could be jeopardized. It took several days to find a place we felt was right, but she has gained recovery in the last 4 months. She is in sober living now and starting her last year of school in the fall to get her degree. We learned in this experience that there were many facilities in California alone that were the subject of FBI raids, insurance fraud and breaking client confidentiality. We also found several which were absolutely worth the costs based on the level of care and dedicated staff (with verifiable credentials). What little time it takes to research might save time in finding a good fit for a loved one that you and your family feel safe and confident. I hope this helps at least one person who might be lost (like we were, but very quickly became experts) in questions about what their options are. Anyone that puts a child, parent, friend or anyone in this kind of environment for treatment is doing so based on trust. It is unfortunate that there shockingly so many opportunistic "treatment centers" all like Creative Care Malibu. Check credentials and all reviews available. Creative Care is not about the care or cure, they clearly will say anything to convince someone to come to their facility.

This facility ruined our sons life. The psychiatrist and psych nurse overmedicated (drugged) him to the point that he was diagnosed with drug induced parkinsons disease when he came home. He suffered for the last month he was there and has never been the same since. His life is ruined and he is now on long term disability. Therapists don't understand psych medications and the signs to look for when someone is having an adverse reaction. Terrible facility. The head doctor is a crook who prances around in his suit and has no contact with the clients. If you value your loved one, do not ship them off to this place.

During my two month stay at Creative Care, a staff member was fired for using heroin with a client. Another staff member was fired for having a romantic relationship with a client. All this drama was ridiculous and really distracted from treatment. The ggroups are repetitive and seem like filler. My therapist was pretty good but you only see your therapist 3 times a week for 45 minutes. The website gives the impression of equine therapy when in reality you go pet the horses on Saturday morning, that is if the equine therapy people decide to come in. The whole place is chronically understaffed, to the point that they wouldn't take people to the urgent care clinic for days. They aren't equipped for medical detox. Several clients had falls on the very steep terrain-if you have knee, ankle, etc. problems this is not a good place for you. The houses you live in have constant maintenance issues. Most of the required night meetings are at a nearby church and are poor quality. The admissions people will be misleading about payment. They didn't even file with my insurance for weeks and when they did it was a different code than was agreed to, costing me thousands of dollars extra. It's all about making money, the clients are just cash cows. It's not creative care, it's cookie cutter care.

If you want to be dazzled by incompetence this is the place for you! Much of the staff has likely not graduated high school. They should be ashamed of the accommodations – NOT what you see pictured. You can easily break your neck walking around the campus. Meals are straight out of Costco. The gym is a filthy joke. You get to see a therapist 3x/week for 45 minutes, and attend several inane group sessions. That’s it. No other treatment modalities though many exist. You are taken to outside meetings in dilapidated and embarrassing vehicles six days a week. You will see the owner once upon arrival for about 15 minutes, and thereafter he’s too busy driving around in his $250k car to be bothered with you. Finally, you are amazingly cured as soon as your insurance runs out – how serendipitious!

I have witnessed professionals acting beyond the scope of their training. In one case a client staying at the center with health problems passed shortly after leaving the center and being submitted to the hospital.

Medical care is substandard and you are pretty much left to your own resources in our journey to recover.

Facility relies on over medication of the clients. My daughter was excessively over medicated unnecessarily and the family and other professional were appalled at the excessive use of prescription drugs by the facility.and 30 days here was a waste of time.

Used Creative Care services for a family member after researching many facilities in the area. In-patient care for 3 months followed by outpatient care. Creative Care has some top notch staff that really know how to deal with dual diagnosis patients. I am very impressed with their staff and treatment. The facilities are good, as is the food. I highly recommend.

This has not been a help for the client. It has basically come down to seeing how much money can be obtained.
