I am a rape victim. I came in voluntarily referred by the VA to help stabilize me from rape PTSD trauma. I am Transgender, I am legally female. I was a rape victim coming in for PTSD treatment for rape trauma. I had previously been admitted and was placed on the female unit for my safety. I left and came back because I was triggered, I was appointed Dr. Lacayo and placed on the coed 900 unit. When I met with the doctor I expressed, "I came in because I was fearful men were going to break in my home, why would I come in voluntarily to sleep on a hall with mentally ill men with my door open," after I stated, "I am not feeling safe being on a floor with males when I came in because I was fearful my rapist would break into my home", he stated, "Your right, I agree with you, I will write an order to move you to the all female 700 unit", I then left and went to the 700 unit for therapy classes where I sat calmly, and said nothing, I came back to 900 and was informed due to an "incident" on 700 Dr. Lacayo had decided to move me to 500 unit! The 500 unit is for violent and unstable mentally Ill patients. I asked, "what did I do?", Surely both Julie, and Sarah the leaders of the groups I attended would attest I was not an issue, and the video surveillance would show I was calm, respectful, and attentive. The nurse replied, "when you were here before (a month ago) you were an issue with your demands", I was then moved to the 500 unit where a man followed me around hovering over my shoulder telling me he was going to chop me up into pieces, when I told staff I was told, "these are mentally ill men, there is nothing we can do", another man stood outside my bedroom door and said repeatedly, "I am coming in", I was denied access to a razor and my facial hair grew out creating dysphoria and I was extremely traumatized. I did not sleep and I lived in fear. Nothing warranted putting me on the 500 unit, however, I believe Dr. Lacayo retaliated against me for my earlier visit am month prior. There is a patient who is a local rapper named "Tay", who wanted to be called Selena. Dr. Lacayo refused to allow her. I had told him in front of everyone "Dr. Lacayo, I do not respect you, you do not own a persons identity", in regards to Chantay. I believe he retaliated on this visit, I believe he did not respect my female status, I believe he violated his ethical standards placing me in greater hard, I believe he violated his code of conduct. I believe this was directly related his belief that my transgender is a "mental disorder", he refused to recognize me as female, even though I am legally female with the department of social security and the VA. I was not baker acted by the police, or the VA, and I was not suicidal when I self admitted voluntarily to Wekiva. How I was treated was beyond acceptable. I am disgusted at this facility, they are unethical, and not transgender friendly. I had to AMA to get out of the facility because I was not receiving treatment.

What a terrible place to go to for help with addictions. We go in there hoping they will help us .....but....... We leave worst than when we reached out for help. Look elsewhere or even another State for a rehab. I am lucky that I was able to get out of this place still alive.

Do NOT take anyone you love to this facility. The staff is rude, they ignore your requests, and they do not comply with ADA requirements. How would you feel if you tried to take a disabled person inside and they stated that they did not have a wheelchair available. It's surprising that the Department of Health has not shut this institution due to incompetence, dishonesty, and neglectf of human rights.

I came as a baker act for depression and anxiety. They left me in my green paper scrubs for a day, saying I wasn't allowed to call my family for clothing and person items until the next day. I saw a doctor for 5 minutes a day, if that. Sometimes I didn't even see him. They didn't treat me based on the symptoms and problems that I knew were the most difficult for me, they only wanted to treat me for "being sad." There was no accommodation for my diet so I was forced to eat foods which I couldn't have, leading to horrible stomach pains and vomiting. No food was allowed to be brought to me by my family even with my very strict diet. I ended up just eating small prepackaged cups of peanut butter and water. The therapy was all group based and wasn't about getting better, it was more so about talking about why we were there and doing physical exercise and deep breathing. They over medicated me, too. I left on 6 different medications, one that lead me to have a severe systemic allergic reaction to which I almost had to be taken to the hospital for. The rest of them left me like, as my family described, a complete zombie. This was a year and a half ago and I am still receiving bills for my stay, costing thousands of dollars. One bill is for a doctor I never even spoke to or saw during my stay. I haven't been back in the hospital since because this scarred me from every needing help like this again. I am currently seeing a private psychiatrist and he is completely baffled as to the care I was given. Unfortunately, I hear this is the best psychiatric facility in the city. Which is a shame. I was taken here against my will, by state law, to receive help and I came out scarred. I still have nightmares about it. If I ever see myself needed this care again, I will look out of state. Please, be careful when choosing a hospital or mental health facility. I wish I had a say in where I would be staying, but I didn't. I wouldn't put a goldfish in there.

This center is awful. The supevisors and nurses act like they don't want to be there and are rude to the patients. It was impossible to get a good night's sleep because every 15 minutes they came into my room to check on me and shined a flashlight in my eye and closed the door very loudly on the way out each time I came on a baker act but was made "voluntary" the second day I was there without the psychiatrist even telling me. I was asked the same questions by the staff over and over again and each time I told them I was no longer feeling suicidal but they still would not discharge me. When the psychiatrist finally discharged me he told me that I needed to wait for the nurse to process me out. After about an hour of waiting I asked the nurse about the status of my processing out and she said that she wasn't even told that I was being discharged, and I had to wait another hour or so to be processed out. Other than the kind therapists I spoke with here, this is a horrible treatment center and I do not recommend anyone check in here.

Went there for extreme anxiety and bipolar. Checked in around 3 pm and was put in a room but did not go to dinner. Told staff I hadn't slept in over 2 days and it wasn't until I had a complete breakdown and screaming on the 3rd day that they gave me anything for sleep. Brought my own meds in but staff said they could not approve them until the pharmacist signed off on them which would take 3 days because of a holiday weekend. Told one of the doctors that I needed my own meds because I cannot take the generic and brought my own meds. This man was condescending and rude and actually told me that he can deny my own meds by putting it in the chart if I refused to take the ones they provided. I saw patients who were on 1 to 1 suicide watch and the nurse was actually sleeping. The groups were just a counselor asking people to tell us why they were there and didn't offer suggestions for getting better. Only saw a doctor for 5 minutes a day and an intake counselor on the first day but no one to one counselor in 6 days. Staff member was charging a few patients money to go buy cigarettes.Avoid this place

I had an appointment at 4 pm. I finally got to the unit around 9:30. I had not eaten since lunch and was told to wait until breakfast. I take blood pressure medication and asked the staff at least five times to take my blood pressure. When they finally got around to taking it at 2:30 am, it was 190/110. I finally got my medication. I did not see a psychiatrist for more than 24 hours after admit. He was a total jerk who treated me like a child. He changed my medication and I felt horrible. I tried to leave, but the staff said it takes 24-48 hours to discharge, but once my insurance denied additional days, I was given the boot. Thank goodness!

My sister has been admitted to more than one treatment facility in the past two years, so this isn't my first rodeo but this is hands down the worst one we have encountered. Upon her admittance into this hospital, she promptly called to tell me she had visiting hours on the following Saturday. I took off work and her best friend drove down from South Carolina to make sure we got to see her. I understand a recptionist can be a stressful job but considering the circumstances, this hospital's staff could do a better job pretending they like their jobs. I was treated as if I was stupid the minute I walked in the door. I'm obviously already stressed out, so please, by all means make it worse. In tears, I explained that if it was made clearer to my sister that visiting hours were a certain day and not that particular Saturday, we would have followed those rules and would have adjusted accordingly. Instead we were given the run around, wasting what I think is precious time I could have spent seeing my sister who I get crackling poor reception phone calls from when she's allowed. Then on Tuesday, the next day I could go see her, I arrive and was greeted with yet another rude and unhelpful employee who informed me yet again that I would not be able to go see her. This time because she had been transferred to a new unti, informaiton that could not be relayed to me in time because she couldn't call me any sooner. I gave the staff one star because zero wasn't an option. Even under "supervision" my sister managed to smash her own hand out of sheer spite and boredom from the facility. The faculty's lack of attentiveness to the patients' needs is absurd. My sister was roomed with a great match too, who on her first day in, swyped my sister's glasses and refused to empty her pockets to return them. The staff did nothing to help get them back. My sister has been in since Friday and will probably still be in there for a couple of days and has only seen a psychiatrist once. The lack of order and consideration to each person's needs has me fuming with the entire staff. I understand they recently did a pricey remodel and yes they've redecorated and the facility looks very nice but you can polish a turd, it's still a turd. How about firing all of the incompetent and rude staff members who obviously hate their jobs and hiring on people who are actually a little more concerned with the lives of their patients and their well-being?

I was there in 2006.I felt there was little to no counseling. If counseled you were placed in groups. There was no individual time.Sometimes it seemed to be a spa as apposed to a treatment facility. That stay cost 20.000 dollars six years ago.I have never went for help with my BI-POLAR problem again.I am sorry for those people who were not afforted the help they so desperately needed.Shame on Wekiva Springs for cheating people who need help from receiving the help they do need

I was only there to observe and I feel terrible for the patients. The staff is as professional as can be. However, they will lie to their patients and will not ensure the trust they promise. For success, intensive training will be needed among every staff member. I've never been to a rehab or acted like a patient, but outside of group therapy where the staff has no control, there is NO EMPATHY OR HOPE THAT PEOPLE CAN CHANGE. Highly disappointed and will share with our CEO. Things will change. We will commit to the people who need our expertise.

Thank you so much Wekiva. Yes you helped me with my opioid dependence but put me on suboxone and now I am currently going through withdrawal all over again. Doesn't seem right to do that to someone. I have worked very hard to get off drugs just to find myself back to where I was when I started and I didn't even relapse. So now I get to suffer through this all by myself with your help. Why would you do that? This is insane. Staff were ok. Food was ok. Docs were ok but the rest was just a disappointment except for Ashley who did wonders for me. Hope you have her group. This gal is very talented and good at what she does. Again thank you for discharging me with someone else I can withdrawal from even when I take it as I am suppose to. What is the point. Must have received more money or something by doing that. You can call me and I can tell you more Wekiva.

Too few employees to fully care for the number of patients at times. Once discharged business office staff do not answer the phone. The calls repeatedly go to voice mail and messages left are not returned. Misinformation by office employee given to me and now I have additional debt and would not have returned if is been told the truth.

Be careful! This place could kill you! Understaffed, poor care, I was given a wrong med and almost died. It happened on a visitation day and my husband was told " I was not feeling well"- I had the EMS workers over me ready to take me to St. Lukes. The nurse gave me a medication that I was to be taken off of and I told her that. He would not leave my room until I swallowed it. I was verbally abused by the director, and they kick you to the curb as soon as your insurance refuses to pay. I seen woman check themselves in for treatment for depression and leave the same day- this place is a JOKE. And it is dangerous. Out patient care is also a joke- they make you take a nap in a chair for over an hour- a chair or on the floor. Why?????? This place needs to be investigated before they kill someone from neglect. I was aslo given a medication that gave me an allergic reaction- hives from head to toe. The night nurse would not call a doctor. I had to scratch my self until I bled until a doctor came in the next morning. This suffering was uncalled for. After almost dying I passed out briefly and fell on the floor. I remember a worker maintaiance stepping right over me. I heard one of the nurses say- she has her shoe-laces in her shoes ( I was being treated for depression and shoelaces were not allowed. This nurse should have been more concerned I passed out- this place needs to be investigated and SHUT DOWN.

My nephew went to his Dr because he was depressed over his divorce very sad. She talked him into outpatient counseling. They told him he had to sign in or they would put him in under baker act. He only told them he felt sad. He was traumatized by surroundings there. Didn't even assign a counselor for 3 days. We had to call an attorney to get him out.

Let's just say that the marketing and brochure pictures of this facility are A+ but the reality behind locked doors are a different experience. I was told this was the best facility Jacksonville has to offer - oh my! MAYBE if you are there for detox or substance abuse. But I was there for depression and my stay only added to it. It's suppose to be a voluntary facility - but when I requested three times to leave (two of those in writing) more than 24 hour went by before my requests were acknowledged. After delay tactics by the staff, a director came to see me and talked me into completing a full week. This place is all about the money. The medications are dispensed by so many different shift workers that I had been given wrong medications on occasion and was even told my synthroid (which I take for a thyroid disorder) was being stopped by doctors orders. It took a day to get that resolved. Most of the women on the desk are pleasant - but totally unsupervised. Food is actually appealing and varied for cafeteria style. If you are a non smoker, be prepared to have no where to go to get away from the smoke the two times a day you are allowed out in the back of the building. Several of the group counselors did nothing more than babysit. All in all I had to come home to recover from Wekiva. And my stay for a week was just under $8000.00. Please think twice before you enter yourself into this facility for non-detox services.

The staff was very partial to certain repeater patients, leaving the first timers baffled and intimidated. The psychiatrists were very lax on paperwork- I lost coverage through Unum because it took my doctor too long to submit my paperwork. I literally hounded his office! I also as a non smoker felt discriminated against- smokers had priority med line spaces so that they could go out to their other addiction! I am not a fan of this place.

they will keep you as long as your insurance will pay, they never check your medication to make sure you are receiving the right one's. anyone has to be admitted if the city or state will pay for them.Very dangerous place. No one there has a degree in anything but getting a pay check. Staff is awful, food is worse. A real nightmare of a rehab.

My experience with Wekiva Springs was very good. Given, it is cafeteria food, but as far as the staff, nurses, techs, doctors, and therapists, they seem like they do really care if patients get well. Sometimes, unruly patients showed off, so I just reminded myself, "It is a mental health facility and a rehab facility." My experience was a positive one.

My wife went here for detox. She is still sober 6 months later and is going to their aftercare meetings, which they have for free. Since we had already met our insurance deductible, all I paid was my insurance copay. My wife says they really helped her, and seeing is believing.

Counselor called me and asked me questions. Diedra said she would be his counselor and my son told me, she never met with him. He was discharge and they did not involve me in the aftercare plan. I called and talked to the voicemail to please call me and let me know what the aftercare plan was. I stated for this to be successful, I needed to be involved. No call. Sadly, my son started taking drugs in 3 days after being discharged.

(Details have not been substantiated)Do you feel this place is dangerous?

- Details:
I had 2 stays at this facility. I was given the wrong medication and almost died. I woke up to EMS workers ready to put me on a gurny to go to St. Luke's. It was a visitation evening and my husband was told he could not see me because I was not feeling well. Dah! I almost died! I remember the doctor telling me he was taking me off a certain med and the evening nurse brought it to my room. I told her he took me off it but she would not leave until I swallowed it. All I remember is waking up with the EMS team there ready to take me to St. Lukes and all of the other ladies on the ward with me around my bed. I was being treated for depression- not substance abuse. I remember vividly seeing myself looking down over my body- I prayed to God to let me live, give me another chance. It took every ounce of my being but I was able to open my eyes. I convinced the EMS workers I would be ok. In hindsight I should have let them take me to the hospital. I requested my records and all that was sent wes my blood work. Somehow records got lost because they were changing ovewr to another computer system. I was there for about 11 days. They kick you to the curb no matter what your condition is when your insurance no longer pays. I was bullied by another patient who was being treated for substance abuse. After my ordeal with almost dying I could not walk a straight line for 2 days. I passed out in the hall way. I came to soon and I saw a maintainance worker step right over me. Ny the time a nurse got to me all I heard her say was- you have shoelaces in your shoes- I guess you can't have them due to suicide risk. She did not ask me if I was hurt, what happened, etc...... this place is a joke. They need to be investigated and shut down. I have had nightmares since this experoience. I even went back for a second stay and nothing changed- only I was put on the ward for non suicidal people. I was suppose to be treated for depression due to chronic pain and an eating disorder. I was a 46 year old woman thrown into a group of young teens- coloring and making pictures with glitter glue was not theraputic to me. As usual, they kicked me to the curb when the insurnce refused to pay. I had to end my evening listening to everyone elses problems (mostly drug/alcohol abuse which had nothing to to with me. Will I was there 4 woman checked in and left the SAME day because this place doesn't treat depression. Actually- I don't think they treat anything but lining their wallets with insurance money. I am seeing an awesome therapist now and after this ordeal began in 2007- 2008- I am still suffering from the "help" or lack of it I received from this facility. I left that house of horrors in worse condition then I went in. Also- out patient therapy is a joke. They make you take a nap for an hour or an hour and a half- sitting in a chair with the lights off. Diry blankets- you can sit in the chair or lay on the floor. This place needs to be investigated and fined. They are DANGEROUS.
