Lorenzo... I think he was on drugs. He seems to be over stimulated sweating and his veins were bulging. I’m pretty sure he and the front desk girl are an item and running this place into the ground. Not the same place I remember the first time I attended.

Go elsewhere. All "counselors" are on drugs themselves. They accept bribes from patients in the form of cash and gifts.

When I called to make my appointment for my court mandatory drug eval I specifically asked if a drug evaluation would be completed in one session and if they would be able to a) reccommend I need counciling or B) clear me of having to go to counciling (since I don't have a drug problem) they counciler saw me for literally ten minutes, barely asked me any questions and than apon leaving stated that I needed to complete a 13 week program just to assess if I was a drug user. That the evaluation takes 13 weeks! They are a bunch of scam artists and once they figure out your going through insurance they will keep you there for as long as they can to make the money. I was ordered by the court for a drug eval due to a CPS case and it was standard procedure by the court. I have never had a heavy drug problem, maybe smoking some pot in high school, but I'm def not attending 13 weeks worth of counciling just to determine if I need further counciling. Go elsewhere!!!!

I suppose if you have a substance abuse problem & are ready to confront your problem & get your life together, you could do worse than this place. I would agree with the previous review that most of the counselors are caring & interested. But in my particular case, going here was a mistake. I drank too much one night in 2012,& was caught in a DWI roadblock in NYC.I had to go for a substance abuse assessment, & chose Sanctuary East because it was close to my home. I wasn't a heavy drinker, I made a mistake one night & decided to quit drinking then & there so as never to put myself & my family through this sort of thing again. The person that did my assessment, Lorenzo, interviewed me & I told him my story & situation. I was surprised to read his assessment when it was done,he seemed to assume I was a major alcoholic & recommended AA meetings 3 times a week & counseling at Sanctuary twice a week. I didn't know any better ,so I agreed to the counseling but not the AA meetings. My insurance covered some of the cost, but only for a short period & it began to get very expensive. When I later attended the DMV/NYS mandated substance abuse classes at SUNY Stony Brook, the people there recommended that you don't get your assessment done at a place that offers treatment as they are motivated to get you into their program to make money off of you & that's exactly what happened to me. I was fortunate that my counselor saw that I ready didn't have a drug or alcohol problem that required this kind of treatment, & signed off on my DMV form when I completed the state mandated classes. They could have easily kept me going there for many more months before signing off on my form, & if Lorenzo had been my counselor I'm sure that's what would have happened. So my advice is to BE CAREFUL! If you are a casual drinker that happened to make a mistake one night & get caught, go somewhere else for your assessment. I have not had a drink since 2012 ,& didn't need to spend all of the money Sanctuary took from me.I also want to agree with the previous review that the woman in the office, Julia(if she's still there-hopefully not!) is rude & obnoxious. She is also quite incompetent(makes HUGE amounts of billing mistakes),& the only reason I can see that someone would put her to work in a job like this is that she's their girlfriend or something!

Most people are Uneducated

Most people are Uneducated
Details:

Regarding previous comments-people mandated by law due to DWI or other offenses should be told by their mandaters that Assessments and "evaluations" cannot be completed in a one hour interview. Most addicts and alcoholics have no problem lying, first of all; therefore, entering the program for 13-26 weeks, 2x weekly for 1 hour per session is how the client must complete the mandated requirement. Counselors are by no means "on crack" or using any substance -as one ignorant, angry commentor posted. And any handouts given to clients is part of the program-to educate,as well. I have seen and heard clients claim their DWI was a one-time Mistake, yet they continue to drink, test positive, and lie to their PO's, counselors, and everyone else involved in their lives. SE helps the users who Want to be helped.
