I was there as a teenager in 2001, and was strong armed by my parents to sign the documents agreeing to the mandatory 90 day program. That’s a separate issue, but I felt the counselors were there to bully you, didn’t listen to your feelings, pretty much telling you the kind of person you were and while 18 year olds can be addicts, I felt the program was completely misguided but rather geared towards an overall method, not catered to the individuals needs. As I reflect on it now, this place scarred me, there is no “referee” in the groups to control some of the outlandish things they can say, and the people can bully you and pretty much verbally abuse you. I was eventually voted out by the group because of “my attitude,” and while some may say it was due to not working the program, I felt I could have used help but it was the wrong kind of help. Felt more like a business model/method for making money, rather than catering to the needs of the individual and for the costs of this place, it’s not worth it. Maybe they have made some changes, but this was the worst experience of my life and I still remember it as if it were yesterday. I’m doing great now and have had therapy over the years in a much more constructive, loving way that has helped me become a successful and strong person. I wouldn’t recommend it.

Unethical, disreputable, unprofessional, unscrupulous, shady, and egotistical bully are just a few terms that come to mind when I recall my experiences with the director of this treatment center. It has been over 10 years since I received treatment at this facility. I am surprised it has taken this long for some of the truth to come to light about her abusive nature and unethical practices.

I was a patient of the Ark in 2007. Like many of the comments posted here, I also was very disappointed with this treatment center. I was appalled at the way they humiliated their clients, the way they used you in doing work on their grounds for their benefit. They collected most of the food from local charities, and food donations that were mostly outdated. I left after 10 days, finishing my treatment with Cirque Lodge. Which I highly recomend. The owner liked to collect her money so she could drive her Mercedes and Corvette parked in the driveway next to all of the outdated food. Do yourself a favor, and go somewhere else. .

I wish I would have researched this place more before I took my addict father here but I was told it was the best from a source I considered reliable at the time (big mistake). When I first brought him there he was heavily under the influence of cocaine and heroin, the counselor told us to take him to Lakeview medical hospital first to detox before they would take him BUT NOT BEFORE having him fill out and sign all their paperwork first which unknown to me at this time was a promise to pay the full amount regardless of completing the program ($15,800) so they had him sign away his money while he was under the influence. They promised to pick him up at the hospital afterword and take care of everything, they did not, I had to pick up my father and take him, they also told me I would be kept in the loop at all times, I wasn't. The Ark didn't do a single thing they told me they would do, I left thinking I had made a mistake leaving my father there, obviously he felt the same way, he called me two days later saying nothing but negative things about the place saying he was leaving. We then received a letter from a collection agency representing the Ark demanding payment in full for a $15,800 bill. Again he was there for only two days and he signed those papers while under the influence of heroin and cocaine. we are fully willing to pay for the 2 days so I called and was told we signed and would have to pay the full amount, I was told very smugly by the person on the phone "we always collect". Trying to collect the full amount for one month after providing only 2 days of service is 100% unethical to say the very least. These people do not care about anything but money, I bet they make most of there money from their lawyers and collection agencies. so do your loved one a favor and take them somewhere else.

The owner of the ARK is very rude and argumentative. The staff does not keep the family well informed about the treatment and get very defensive and angry when you bring this up or ask questions. A business where people psyche is at stake should NOT be a family business. It is difficult to complain when all concerned are related and are more concerned about defending each other than the treatment of the patients.
